We had several good options for this top honor but in the end, I felt like Spencer had such an impactful senior season that it was hard to not make him our D2-Class AA player of the year. The Bruins running back and future Dayton Flyer had a monster final campaign where he led his classification in rushing at 2,195 yards with 32 touchdowns while averaging 10.4 yards per carry. He became the team's bell cow back and top offensive performer that helped lead the Bruins to a 10-2 record. Spencer also earned Mr. Football for the D2-Class AA ranks, so it was a breakout year for this West Tennessee talent that will now by running the ball next Fall in the Pioneer League.

Having a new staff come into Battle Ground Academy made a big difference with Marable and his maturation at the quarterback position. You saw that during his junior season where this Mid-Tennessee signal caller had a breakout year, throwing for 3,338 yards with 35 touchdowns and only 3 interceptions. Marable didn't just enhance his passing skills, he also increased his dual threat stock by running for 507 yards and producing 13 scores on the ground. His leadership and toughness was also key as he was a major piece behind the Wildcats run in the playoffs and a runner-up finish in the 2024 D2-Class AA title game.

One of the biggest stars from this classification last Fall that took his game to a whole new level was this Mid-Tennessee two-way lineman. Fleming was an absolute force for the Wildcats that dominated on the O-line but it was his work within the defensive front that gained him this top honor. Week in and week out, the Wildcats D-lineman was as consistent as anyone from the D2-Class AA ranks where he produced 50 total tackles, 17 for loss and 13 sacks on the year. Fleming consistently played in the opposition's backfield, putting pressure on the quarterback while also doing good work versus the run. It will be fun to watch how Fleming develops even further over the coming months and into his senior year because he has a shot at making it to the Power Four level.

For multiple seasons inside the Lions offensive line, Smith was a consistent leader and starter up front that might have put forth his best season yet during his team's 2024 championship run. This future Furman Paladin was a linchpin at center that helped open consistent holes for Patterson and the Lions run game as well as hold up nicely in pass protection, keeping his quarterback clean. Opposing defensive linemen had a hard time dealing with Smith due to his technique sound blocking and tenacious, physical game play. This interior O-lineman was definitely a major piece in CPA's title run and someone that will be hard to replace for the 2025 season.

Coach of the Year

Bobby Bentley - BGA

- Talent was on hand at Battle Ground Academy but the team needed a new staff to come in and help the players see their potential. Coach Bentley and his staff did just that as the Wildcats looked completely different compared to years past and even made it all the way to the D2-Class AA title game, doing so probably a year earlier than expected. Having the college experience that Coach Bentley has showed up big in 2024 where you could see the development and enhancement of talent as well as see the team overall take a step up with their football knowledge. Coach Bentley could achieve this honor again in 2025 as most of their top players return in the Fall where the Wildcats could be a prime contender to win the D2-Class AA state title.

Positional MVP's (Class D2-Class AA)

QB MVP: [player_tooltip player_id='301391' first='Weston' last='Edmondson'] - GCA: It was a breakout season for Edmondson where he put up strong numbers that helped him eventually sign with ETSU. The Rams signal caller ended his senior year throwing for 3,080 yards, 32 touchdowns and 8 interceptions with a QB Rating of 116.8.

RB MVP: ‘26 [player_tooltip player_id='1335216' first='Rawls' last='Patterson'] - CPA: The Lions put another “Gold Ball” into their trophy case after winning the D2-Class AA state title with Patterson being a major reason why. This rising senior running back had a breakthrough season where he rushed for 1,593 yards and 18 touchdowns while averaging 8.2 yards per carry.

WR MVP: [player_tooltip player_id='1002764' first='Arnett' last='Hayes, Jr'] - BGA: Hayes, Jr was nearly unstoppable during his senior campaign where this future Murray St. Racer receiver produced 95 receptions for 1,362 yards and 14 touchdowns. The Wildcats pass catcher was a true go-to guy that averaged 14.3 yards per catch and shined brightest in the team's top games.

OL MVP: [player_tooltip player_id='1209520' first='Caleb' last='Howard'] - Boyd Buchanan: Throughout the entire 2024 season, Howard was as consistent up front as any O-linemen from the D2-Class AA ranks and a pillar in the trenches that helped the Bucs sport one of the best rushing attacks within this classification. His gritty, tough play up front will be tough to replace next year as Howard set the tone in the trenches game in and game out.

DL MVP: [player_tooltip player_id='467263' first='Brock' last='Beddingfield'] - CPA: The Lions might have had the best defensive front inside the D2-Class AA ranks last season with Beddingfield being their top guy. This 6 '2 defensive end had a strong senior year where he generated 55 total tackles with 13.5 of them for loss, 1 forced fumble, 4 passes defended and 7.5 sacks to cap off his Lions career.

LB MVP: [player_tooltip player_id='841237' first='Alex' last='Wallace'] - USJ: Wallace came out of nowhere last Fall to have his best high school season yet where he produced 124 total tackles with 22 of them for loss as well as 6 forced fumbles, 3 passes defended, 2 interceptions and 3 sacks. His work last Fall earned college interest where Wallace eventually signed with Carson-Newman.

DB MVP: Landon Goeller - Notre Dame: Goeller was everywhere on the gridiron last Fall where he led the D2-Class AA ranks in tackles at 161 total while also providing solid coverage from his safety position. This Chattanooga area defender didn't have the INT numbers that some may want for this top honor but his consistent play all year long as well as his strong play vs. the run put him at the top of the list.
