He has a strong arm especially for his age, and shows good touch over the top while able to make accurate on time throws at all three levels. He is a true dual-threat athlete that can make defenders miss in the hole, is tough to bring down in the open field and shows contact balance, a good short area burst and true third level speed as well. He is a elusive and explosive play-maker on offense, while showing elite ball skills, hip fluidity and cover abilities downfield from his corner position. Frei can play either in the slot or backfield, shows a strong initial burst through the first level with cutback abilities and good vision in tight windows, and is very difficult to take down in one on one situations due to his short are quickness and lateral movement in tight spaces. Defensively, he is a high IQ kid that triggers quickly, has natural ball skills at the point of attack and shows return abilities as well. He is a high IQ kid in pass protection, showing he can pick up stunts and twists, while doing a nice job at staying within his base and not over-extending on longer defenders. Mitchell shows he can apply pressure off the edge with backside pursuit and takes the proper angles while doing a nice job at navigating through traffic and flowing over the top to make plays outside the tackles when needed.
