The off-season is here! What an action-packed 2024 season it was and now we're already looking forward to next fall. Today, I'm looking at who are the top rising sophomore quarterbacks heading into 2025. Most of these guys are names you probably haven't heard of just yet, but each one has shown upside on film and are among the elite at their position in the Lone Star State.

[player_tooltip player_id='963778' first='Jaxon' last='Schad'] 5'11" 160, Pflugerville Weiss

Jaxon is relaxed in the pocket, he knows how to hold a high safety with his eyes and shows a twitchy upper-half when he's ready to uncork a long ball. He can alter his arm slot with opposing rushers coming inbound, he's athletic enough to improvise when the pocket collapses, and is an easy thrower off platform.

[player_tooltip player_id='1576312' first='Tristin' last='Gaines'] 6'1" 175, Waller

Gaines knows how to add zip for hole shots, he knows when to take a little something off throws, and shows a quick setup outside the pocket. He stands tall against the rush, he throws a compact spiral and gets the ball out quickly on called RPOs.

[player_tooltip player_id='1414415' first='Hayes' last='Hackney'] 5'10" 160, Walnut Grove

Hayes may be undersized right now, but he's got a live arm and impressive touch on throws of twenty yards plus. He's athletic and can evade free rushers, he's got quiet feet and keeps his eyes downfield when he climbs the pocket with edge pressure coming. This kid is a gunslinger who plays with a chip on his shoulder.

[player_tooltip player_id='459140' first='Camren' last='Phillips'] 5'11" 180, Life Oak Cliff

Camren had ridiculous production this fall and was easily the state's top freshmen passer from a statistical perspective. On tape, he can place the football through smaller windows, he's poised, can layer throws over linebackers, and does a good job driving his back hip on his follow-through.

[player_tooltip player_id='1140361' first='Donovan' last='Warren'] 6'1" 150, Bridgeland

Warren is accurate throwing off multiple different platforms, he's slippery within the pocket and will make you pay if you don't lock on during the scramble drill. He can place the football all over, he's poised, confident, and throws with anticipation.

[player_tooltip player_id='465272' first='Carter' last='Zingelmann'] 6'5" 210. Argyle Liberty Christian

Carter already has the size of a big-time quarterback prospect. He can beat you with both his arm and his legs, he drops vertical shots right in stride in the breadbasket, and is extremely effective on called boots. He throws well on the move, is calm in the pocket and has a quick wind-up.

[player_tooltip player_id='1026277' first='Jaxon' last='Knapp'] 6'1" 165, All Saints Episcopal

I wrote about Knapp the other day, he just missed our rankings but is still among the top freshmen quarterbacks in Texas. He's got a ton of tools in his toolbox and clearly has his best ball ahead of him.
