Expert Analysis
Alin Edouard | Prep Redzone Scout
Camren had a composed showing at the Midwestern State camp, working through testing, quarterback mechanics stations, and a steady rotation of one-on-one passing reps. What stood out most was his ability to spin the football—he consistently delivered a clean, catchable ball with good placement, especially on timing routes where accuracy mattered most. He showed a smooth throwing motion and generally stayed balanced through his release, which helped him maintain consistency across multiple drill periods.

The Lions were recently devastated with the news that their star signal-caller will miss the remainder of the season with a broken collarbone. But Phillips deserves recognition for his dominant production to this point of the season. He totaled a remarkable 1,579 yards passing, over 400 on the ground, and 30 total touchdowns. He was on a track to all-state honors and his value through the first half of the season will not go unnoticed if the Lions can go on a playoff run. Great running the ball as well, Cam’s best trait as a passer is his ability to go through his progressions, anticipate windows, and deliver accurate strikes. Phillips should be in store for a nationally recognized junior season next year with a chip on his shoulder.

Phillips is off to one heck of a start to the 2024 season, throwing for 1,073 yards 12 touchdowns to just one interception in three games. He’s an ideal fit for a wide-open spread offense, he can buy himself time within the pocket and throws on time with anticipation. He plays loose, throws well on the move, and will step up in the pocket with his eyes downfield. He’s not a burner, but he has some elusiveness to his game and can tuck the football and pick up chunk yardage on the ground with his feet.

Phillips proved once again, that he’s a 2028 Quarterback to really take a good look at. Coming off middle school season where he played up against 2027 prospects and registered 1,989 and 27 touchdowns in just eight games for Life Oak Cliff Middle School, he carried that momentum to camp. I can’t say enough positive things about his throwing motion and how quickly he gets the ball out. Showed almost zero wasted movement and was as accurate as could be. He was really impressive.

Officially measured in at 5-foot-5 and 123-pounds (verified) at the Prep Redzone Next Camp in Texas and did a great job throughout the camp. The Quarterback position was an absolutely loaded group from top to bottom and overall it was probably 1 or 1A with the Wide Receiver position, as to who has the most talent. Phillips is an accurate passer with a short, crisp throwing motion that coaches and scouts loved. Obviously needs that growth spurt to kick in, but the arm talent is there.
