BROOKLYN PARK-- We take a look at some of the young bucks that impressed me at the running back position at the Prep Redzone Minnesota Showcase last Sunday at the Park Center. We include, one of my favorite 2028 running backs overall from Sunday, a handful of 2027 utstate prospects with great upside, and one of the most gritty performances I saw from a NW Metro 2027 running back that stood out.

Chase by far was one of my favorite prospects in the 2028 class amongst the running back group. For his age and size, some of the college coaches expressed to me in reps that this kid ran like a wrecking ball thru contact for his size and I got the same impression when I watched Chase's reps myself. He also impressed me with his route-running for his age, as he also showed off a poised demeanor with his hands which graded for me a running back prospect that has high upside with his football IQ over the next several years with versatility on his side. He also showed off the twitch off the snap that I liked see at the top of his route. Chase is surely a 2028 running back to track over the next handful of years to watch his growth.

Blake was another Mankato East Cougar that caught my eyes at our Minnesota Showcase, as from the early reps he intrigued me with his instinctive movement he showed off. Getting into the later reps from our live eval, Blake showed off the upside that comes with his vision as a 2027 running back that showed off good balance within the reps I watched out of him. He also showed off better thru contact than I envisioned as a prospect that looks like on tape possesses the position flexibility to watch over over the coming years for the Cougars.

Joe is a running back prospect from Duluth East that I recall as one on my standouts list at one of last years's Prep Redzone Minnesota Showcase, as he continued that trend yet again at the Park Center Dome catching my notebook with his skillsets on multiple occasions. Joe put up some of the most impressive testing numbers overall in his broad jump recording a 9'10 which has to be one of the best overall out of the 200+ kids at Sunday's showcase. I also saw the growth in his change of direction with a smoother looking pro agility number that he recorded a 4.62, as I could tell was more mechnically sound since his freshmen year. Joe also showed off some skillsets without the ball that have developed, showing off more strength in his punch in reps which could be beneficial as Joe grows as a run-blocker. Joe surely is a North Shore running back that is on the rise in my eyes.

This isn't the first Wiersma brother from Kingsland that has stood out at our Prep Redzone Minnesota Showcase as like older brother Beau (Winona State) Bently showed off some sound skillsets at the Park Center Dome. Bently showed off great fluidity in his reps for his age as you could just tell that this young man has plenty of upside yet to be untapped in the coming years. Bently as I recall was a freshmen that intrigued Mark Johnson and I at the Winona State prospect camp just a summer ago as it's clear his athleticsm has surely improved year after year. Excited to see more tape come thru for Bently over the coming months to see more of that sophomore season.

There wasn't a running back that in my eyes played more to the whistle in my eyes at our Prep Redzone Minnesota Showcase than Anoka 2027 running back [player_tooltip player_id='1120519' first='Brody' last='Rush']. Brody showed off a running back that plays with a sound amount of grit. He showed off great agility in this reps I watched and on particular rep put a linebacker on skates with that change of direction. Found out afterwards Brody isn't even playing at 100% yet, which shows off there is even more upside at his disposal. He was also one of the best running backs in run-blocking not just in the 2027 class, but I would say overall and showed off some good and growing pad-level as well. Surely should be in my eyes a 2027 running back that rises in this 2027 class out of Anoka.
