The Class 2A-2 state championship game is set! #1 Vian will square off with #6 Davis in Edmond on Saturday at 1PM. This is the first season that Class 2A has been split into two divisions and this will be the first 2A-2 state championship game. While it might be the first, it also feels like a throwback match-up to a decade ago, when Davis and Vian were two of the best teams in the old 64-team Class 2A. For Davis, they're back in the state championship game for the first time in a decade. They've had to earn their way here, beating two undefeated teams in back to back weeks. In this breakdown, we're putting the spotlight on five Davis Wolves to keep an eye on Saturday afternoon. These five players have had terrific 2024 campaigns and will look to impact Saturday's game. Keep it locked into Prep Redzone Oklahoma for more state championship preview content!

[player_tooltip player_id='1573245' first='Brenden' last='Rawls'] - Senior Running Back

Senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='1573245' first='Brenden' last='Rawls'] is your prototypical fullback but you simply don't see that position utilized as often as Davis uses it. Rawls is an absolute bowling ball with the football in his hands and like many players with a similar running style, he's an absolute nightmare to deal with in the second half of games. Rawls isn't a threat to break a 50-yard run but he is incredibly tough to bring down. And when the third and fourth quarters roll around, opponents are really tired of trying to bring down Rawls when he has the football. So if Davis has the lead in the second half, expect Rawls to get a heavy workload as he can churn up yards and more importantly, keep Vian's offense on the sidelines.

[player_tooltip player_id='1324250' first='Dax' last='Owens'] - Sophomore Quarterback

Coming into this season, we were fired up to see what sophomore quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1324250' first='Dax' last='Owens'] could do in this Davis offense and he has certainly lived up to the hype. Owens started last year as a freshman and each time we've seen the Wolves in person this fall, he's been one of the best players on the field. He has full control of this Davis rushing attack and while they mostly ground and pound their opponents for three yards and a cloud of dust, Owens is a guy that can break the long run in the Davis backfield. The thing that has stood out to us with his game is the patience he plays with. He rarely makes a mistake and in this offense, that is something that is critical. Owens will be one of the best players on the field on Saturday.

[player_tooltip player_id='1324252' first='Fisher' last='Smith'] - Senior Offensive Lineman

Davis makes no secret about what they want to do on the offensive side of the ball and that's running the football. Setting the tone on the line of scrimmage is senior [player_tooltip player_id='1324252' first='Fisher' last='Smith'] and he's been doing that all season for the Wolves. Smith came into this season as one of the more experienced players on the offensive side of the ball. Davis has looked outstanding in this playoff run to the state championship game and that rushing attack has been a big part of it. It all starts on the line of scrimmage and Smith is going to be going head to head with several big time players from the Vian front seven. If Smith can have success and open up some lanes, the Davis rushing attack should be in a good position on Saturday afternoon.

[player_tooltip player_id='1324251' first='Trey' last='Melton'] - Senior Athlete

The Wolves are used to pounding opponents with a brutal rushing attack. But when they break a big play down the field, there's a good chance that it's senior [player_tooltip player_id='1324251' first='Trey' last='Melton'] making the play. Melton came into this season as one of the more experienced skill players on the Davis roster and we're looking forward to seeing what kind of impact he has in the championship game. In the two games this season that we watched Davis in person, Melton was somewhat limited on the offensive side of the ball but he also turned around and had a significant impact on the defensive side of the ball. Vian is similar to Davis where they want to run the football but when they throw it, they'll need to know where Melton is because he's become a ball hawk in the secondary.

[player_tooltip player_id='1573250' first='Wyatt' last='Fielding'] - Senior Tight End/Defensive Lineman

When you look at this championship game match-up from a physical standpoint, there are few players that are going to stand out more than senior [player_tooltip player_id='1573250' first='Wyatt' last='Fielding'] on both sides of the ball. Standing 6'4, Fielding is one of the tallest players in the match-up. Offensively, he gives Davis a red zone target in the passing game. Now, the Wolves simply don't pass the ball very often but when they do, Fielding is a target that is hard to cover in one on one situations. On the defensive side of the ball, Fielding leads the Davis front seven and that's going to be incredibly important on Saturday afternoon. They are facing a Vian offense that has one of the very best running backs in Oklahoma. Containing the Wolverines will be a high priority.
