The 2024 season in the Three Rivers League was one for the books, showcasing some of Oregon high school football's best talent and most exciting matchups. Known for its depth and competitive edge, the league once again lived up to its reputation as a proving ground for state title contenders. From powerhouse programs like West Linn and Lake Oswego battling for supremacy to emerging stars making their mark, the season offered plenty of storylines worth revisiting. As we kick off our conference review series, we'll take an in-depth look at each team in the Three Rivers League.

1. Lake Oswego Lakers (11-1) Lost in the State Championship

Key Games:

Week 7 - Took down the defending TRL champs, West Linn, 21-17 on the road, which would be the deciding factor in them claiming the conference championship.

State Championship - Heartbreaking defeat to the same West Linn squad 30-44.

Star Players:

Bell was on another level this season, but especially in the playoffs. His breakout game came in the semifinals vs Central Catholic, where he exploded for 320 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns! He was named TRL Offensive Player of the Year, and it was not a close race.

Lopez took home TRL Defensive Player of the Year after a fantastic season on the defensive line. He had a presence out there all year, and you would be scared to run to his side or turn your back to him. Lopez truly had a breakout season.

Top Underclassman:

Kurland took over the starting quarterback role this year and looked great. No team can go to the state title game if its quarterback is not performing well. Kurland's return to the Lakers should be very exciting, as I expect him to keep improving.

C/O 2025 Recruitment Updates:

*Does not seem like there are many offers out right now, but I expect more to roll in for these Laker players.*

LB [player_tooltip player_id='1103532' first='Riley' last='Van Deusen'] - Holds an offer from Linfield (D3).

2025 Outlook: This team will have to replace some studs, there is no doubt about that, but when your starting QB and star player are returning, you will always be confident. The offensive line was quite senior-heavy, and replacing those pieces will be vital in their race for a state title next season.

2. West Linn Lions (11-1) Won the State Championship

Key Games:

Week 7 - Lost a thrilling game to Lake Oswego 17-21 that ultimately ended up deciding the league title. It was essential for them to know what they needed to fix.

State Championship - Made up for the regular season defeat and took down #1 Lake Oswego 44-30 to become 2024 state champs!

Star Players:

Normoyle is a beast in the trenches and was a huge part of West Linn's success this year. He was voted TRL Offensive Lineman of the Year and helped this West Linn reach its full potential. All you need to know about Jake is that he played left tackle for the best team in the state.

Gilroy had a fantastic senior season and proved he was the correct choice to replace West Linn legend and Arizona State standout Sam Leavitt. Baird finished the regular season with 2,141 passing yards and 29 passing touchdowns. He continued his clutch performances in the playoffs, putting up 44 points against an imposing Lake Oswego team.

Top Underclassman:

It is almost unfair that Molden just finished his sophomore season. Oregon rarely gets a prospect of Molden's caliber, as he already holds numerous D1 offers. We are lucky to say we can watch Molden for two more seasons locking down opposing #1 receivers.

C/O 2025 Recruitment Updates:

OL [player_tooltip player_id='406756' first='Jake' last='Normoyle'] - Committed to Oregon State.

TE [player_tooltip player_id='285855' first='Baron' last='Naone'] - Committed to Washington.

QB [player_tooltip player_id='406774' first='Baird' last='Gilroy'] - Holds an offer from Puget Sound (D3).

LB [player_tooltip player_id='406775' first='William' last='Ingle'] - Holds an offer from Linfield (D3).

DB [player_tooltip player_id='904354' first='Xavier' last='Harris'] - Holds multiple D3 offers from Lewis & Clark (OR), Linfield, and Pacific (OR).

OL [player_tooltip player_id='1285759' first='Connor' last='Stuart'] - Holds an offer from Linfield (D3).

2025 Outlook: The biggest question mark comes at the quarterback position for next season, as Gilroy has played his last snap as the Lions' quarterback. Ryan Hemsley looks like the obvious answer, as he will be a senior next season, but I would not count out some of the younger guys, such as [player_tooltip player_id='652600' first='Carson' last='Smiley']. They have a plethora of talent to replace the seniors, and they should be right in the title conversation once again.

3. Lakeridge Pacers (7-3) Lost in Quarter Finals

Key Games:

Week 7 - Big Win over Tualatin at home, 33-22, to secure the third spot in the conference.

Quarter Finals - Upsetting defeat to Central Catholic 17-40 after coming off a first-round bye. It was not the playoff experience many had hoped for.

Star Players:

Being a coach in the TRL has to be challenging when you have to face Lake Oswego and Bell one week and then play Lakeridge and Sanoe the next, as those two backs are the best in Oregon. Sanoe had an incredible junior year and will look to lead Lakeridge to a state title next season.

Tishendorf received the TRL Defensive Lineman of the Year award because he was a dominant force all season. He ended the season with 10 sacks and 20 TFLs in the toughest conference in the state.

Top Underclassman:

This 2026 Lakeridge class has a chance to do something special, as I don't think a school was this good with this many underclassmen in key positions. Weiler was no exception. He took over the quarterback role this year for the Pacers and looked quite comfortable, earning TRL honorable mention. Expect a big season from him next year.

C/O 2025 Recruitment Updates:

LB [player_tooltip player_id='766200' first='Treyson' last='Eddleman'] - Holds offers from Minot State (D2), Oklahoma Baptist (D2), Western New Mexico (D2), and Jamestown (D3).

LB [player_tooltip player_id='754631' first='Kayce' last='Tinner'] - Committed to Portland State.

ATH [player_tooltip player_id='406755' first='Zyon' last='Floyd'] - Committed to Portland State.

DB [player_tooltip player_id='1103533' first='David' last='Moore'] - Holds an offer from San Diego (FCS).

DL [player_tooltip player_id='1366288' first='Jack' last='Fennessy'] - Holds D3 offers from Macalester, Puget Sound, and Beloit.

2025 Outlook: Coach Spencer Phillips has to be pretty excited that many of his best players are returning.
