Our look through the top performers of the State Finals continues! This time we turn our attention to the WRs and TEs who really stood out, produced, and impacted the game most. They also are current uncommitted seniors, or upcoming recruits to know. You may notice a big name or two missing, but that is because we will be including them in the ATH article because of how much they dominated on both sides of the ball. Today's article is about the athletes who took over the game through the air and are names you need to get your eyes on. Let's dive in!

Stats: 4 Receptions, 155 Yards, 3 TDs

The most dominant performance among all WRs and TEs was the junior WR out of Racine St. Catherine's. Lamont completely took over the game with his unreal effort. The junior WR proved to be a mismatch while setting D4 State Championship game records in receiving yards and TDs. Lamont is a gifted athlete. He is explosive off the line, quick to eat up cushion and stack his CB, then hits the jets to pull away down the sideline as he easily tracks and runs under the deep ball. All of Lamont's catches were game changers and the Angels needed every one of them to secure the Championship. Lamont has natural hands and I was impressed with how well he could reel in passes when the defense was there to try and break up passes. The cherry on top of his elite performance is the junior showed off more of that innate playmaking ability with a clutch kickoff return TD that showed off the vision and speed that he plays with once he has the ball in his hands. Lamont is one of the best in the state and proved it in this game.

Stats: 8 Receptions, 160 Yards, 2 TDs

Butler-Brown actually was a solid impact on defense as well, but he was so dominant on offense that that is where I want to focus. Marvanous repeatedly proved his deep threat potential with his 10.8 100M dash speed to take the top off the defense. He was able to easily get behind the defense and leave CBs trying to catch up as he hauled in over the shoulder passes for long TDs or huge chunk plays. I loved the way he could easily and quickly find the ball and his body control and agility allowed him to easily adjust to the flight of the ball. After the catch the senior was able to either sprint away from the defense or use his agility to elude a defender and open up space for him to make a play. Coaches, you need to check out the senior WR/ATH.

Stats: 4 Receptions, 58 Yards, 1 TD

Lucas was an athlete that I was hoping to get a few looks at throughout the D2 game, and the senior WR stepped up a few times to make clutch plays. Lucas plays the part of a possession WR who is able to create separation with very effective route running that stems from his balance, agility, and burst. His TD came on 4th down near the goal line where he executed an effective whip route that had the CB running the wrong direction out of the break. Sonn also flashed strong hands that provided a large catch radius to his QB. The senior put together an outstanding final season. Give him a look.

Stats: 5 Reception, 65 Yards

Caden is a very exciting TE prospect to get on your radars now if he isn't already. The 6'7" 200 lbs TE has an exciting frame that offers a massive target area and a lot of room to continue to fill out at the next level, and this coming offseason. The big man naturally plucks the ball out of the air with his hands away from his body to protect the ball. The big man was a surprisingly smooth route runner as well. He could break down quickly to execute the sharper route breaks and when he could open up those strides he was able to create space with his play speed. I'm very excited to see what he does this offseason at camps and to watch his senior season in 2025.

Stats: 2 Receptions, 15 Yards, 2 TDs

I had been gaining interest as the season went on in the senior TE out of Catholic Memorial. So I was excited to see he and the Crusaders make State where I could watch him live. Jake has a prototypical frame for the position already. He has length and he has good weight on his frame that has helped him become a well rounded prospect. He can do the physical aspects of the position like block in the trenches and create a push or deliver chip blocks to ensure that defenders weren't getting the edge. To go with the blocking side of his game, Jake also was a natural receiver. He turned both of his receptions into TDs during the championship game. The second TD had my attention because it was created with his run after the catch, and his power to finish into the endzone. Don't sleep on this TE recruit. He has a lot of talent to work with and develop.

Stats: 2 Receptions, 23 Yards

Sawyer didn't have a massively productive night in the D1 State Championship Game, but his talent needs to be talked about. The uncommitted senior is definitely worthy of a long look. The senior has proven to be a talented WR1. He can win with route running. He can win with speed deep downfield. The ball skills are there to make the last second adjustment or strong catch in traffic. His balance and body control have allowed him to create a lot of separation with his route running. Sawyer has become a nuanced route runner who can set up defenders and put them into bad leverage situations. Torp is an athlete who can win in a variety of ways. Get eyes on him.

Stats: 1 Reception, 13 Yards

Another standout TE that I was very excited to watch live was Bay Port's [player_tooltip player_id='944024' first='Bennett' last='Deppeler']. The 6'3" 230 lbs athlete delivered a strong performance. It wasn't on the receiving end, though. Bennett did his damage in the run game as an inline blocker. Bennett is a big, strong, athletic TE prospect who excels in the run game. He is quick off the line and quick to get his strong hands onto his opponent. His leg drive once engaged proved to be strong as he was able to create that positive flow you look for. He worked very well with the OL in getting that positive movement as one unit. Bennett fits the mold of the old-school, traditional TE that can be an impact in the run game just as much as the pass game, if not more. Don't miss out on the uncommitted senior talent.
