<p>As is the case in Class 5A, the defending champions remain alive in the 4A field. Lewis Central joined North Polk, North Scott and Pella in Thursday's semifinals at the UNI-Dome with wins last Friday night. </p>

<p>North Scott was the only school among the final four to win away from home last week. The quartet reached The Dome with a combined 40-4 record, showing throughout the season that they were worthy of this achievement.</p>

<p>Here's a closer look at 4A quarterfinal action from Friday with standout student-athletes: </p>

<p><strong>North Polk 35, Xavier 14</strong></p>

<p>For the second season in a row, North Polk ended Xavier's season in the quarterfinals. This meeting was more one-sided than last year's 17-14 Comet win. </p>

<p>Dynamic North Polk quarterback Nathan Feldmann completed 5 of 7 throws for 52 yards and a touchdown. The senior rushed 16 times for 148 yards and another score. BJ Tate picked up 81 yards and a TD on 16 carries, and [player_tooltip player_id='1361535' first='Jake' last='Hout'] caught a touchdown. </p>

<p>Luke Engebretson led the winners with 8.0 tackles (7 solo, 1.0 TFL, 1.0 Sack), while Jacok Phillips and Henry Christensen teamed up for 11 solo tackles. Carter Van Brocklin recorded a sack and recovered a fumble, and Feldmann, Phillips and [player_tooltip player_id='1760678' first='Brady' last='Cathcart'] each picked off a pass. </p>

<p>The Comets remained perfect at 11-0. Xavier finished up at 7-4. The Saints had not uploaded statistics from this game to Bound.com at the time of this story's publishing.</p>

<p><strong>North Scott 28, Decorah 24</strong></p>

<p>Decorah led this game, 17-7, heading into the fourth quarter. North Scott rallied for the victory, continuing the trend of reaching The Dome in even-numbered years during this decade. </p>

<p>[player_tooltip player_id='690937' first='Thanaphat' last='Chase Smith'] completed 23 of 33 throws for 345 yards and three touchdowns in Friday's victory. The senior added an 11-yard scoring catch from receiver, [player_tooltip player_id='1279117' first='Cash' last='Bowe']. </p>

<p>[player_tooltip player_id='305767' first='Carson' last='Lage'] hauled in 11 passes for 200 yards and two TDs, Bowe caught eight balls for 77 yards, and [player_tooltip player_id='1418139' first='Kye' last='Smith'] had four receptions for 68 yards and a score. Smith shared the team-lead in tackles (9.0) with Cole Johnson, and [player_tooltip player_id='1586814' first='Brent' last='Morgan'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1402859' first='Jerrod' last='Lee'] combined for 13 solo stops. </p>

<p>Tanner Caddell rushed for 132 yards and a pair of scores for Decorah, and [player_tooltip player_id='1619841' first='Trevor' last='Kuennen'] had 58 yards and a TD on the ground. [player_tooltip player_id='1466771' first='Gatlin' last='Dahlberg'] recorded a team-best 9.5 tackles, and Kuennen added 8.0 (7 solo, 2.0 TFL). Brayden Wemark booted a 32-yard field goal on his only attempt, and connected on all three PAT tries. </p>

<p>Friday was the rematch of the Oct. 25 regular-season finale won by Gilbert, 14-7. The recent game was tied 7-7 at halftime.</p>

<p>It was another competition favoring the defenses. Pella's Nate Warner and Gage Branderhorst teamed up for 26.0 tackles, all solo. [player_tooltip player_id='1620031' first='Rex' last='Rhamy'] intercepted a pass and returned it 38 yards during the win, and [player_tooltip player_id='1644914' first='Kyler' last='VanMaanen'] contributed 7.0 tackles.</p>

<p>[player_tooltip player_id='1286458' first='Colin' last='Kerndt'] completed 7 of 11 throws for 108 yards and a touchdown, and added 75 yards and two scores rushing for the Dutch. [player_tooltip player_id='1240470' first='Emmanuel' last='Diers'] carried nine times for 44 yards, while [player_tooltip player_id='897440' first='Harrison' last='Mullens'] caught two passes for 73 yards and a TD. </p>

<p>Gilbert's [player_tooltip player_id='252314' first='Will' last='Hawthorne'] completed a sensational senior season with 149 yards and a touchdown on 34 carries. He contributed a tackle for loss on defense, which is where he'll play at Iowa State. Ethan Rash added 64 yards and a score on the ground for the Tigers, and Blake Bell posted a team-high 5.0 tackles.</p>

<p>The defending champs took down a tough ADM outfit for a second time this year. Lewis Central registered a 30-27 win on Sept. 13, and now has won all four meetings played between the schools during the past two seasons. </p>

<p>During Friday's victory, [player_tooltip player_id='1279100' first='Brady' last='Hetzel'] threw for 246 yards and two touchdowns. [player_tooltip player_id='1619876' first='Peyton' last='Phippen'] and Leonardo Tatum combined to catch nine passes for 204 yards and two scores, and [player_tooltip player_id='1360075' first='Chance' last='Chappell'] rushed for 65 yards and a pair of TDs. </p>

<p>ADM's Jonathon Hatchitt carried the rock 25 times for 228 yards and two touchdowns, and Grant Jansen caught four passes for 59 yards and a score.
