Game Summary:

Mountain View's defense set the tone early, with S [player_tooltip player_id='1353869' first='Jasper' last='Lake']'s interception on the opening drive. Late in the first quarter, we would get a 31-yard touchdown pass from QB [player_tooltip player_id='1369417' first='Brady' last='Goodman'] to WR Talan Arnett. Beginning of the second quarter, it would be the ground attack for the Toros getting done as RB Reese Bodily would rush it in from about 4 yards out, adding to their lead 14-0. The Lancers would get into a groove as sophomore QB Mathew Avelar would rush it in from 4 yards out to close the gap 14-7. There would be a pair of field goals from each team before the end of the half, one from K John Girard for the Toros from a short yardage out and one from the Lancers K Kyah Francone from 47 yards out to make the score before halftime 17-10. It would be all Mountain View the rest of the way as RB Reese Bodily would take a house call from 67 yards out for the 24-10 lead. Next, QB [player_tooltip player_id='1369417' first='Brady' last='Goodman'] would rush it in from 4 yards out for another Toros touchdown, making it 31-10. They would continue pouring it on as once more RB Reese Bodily would rush it in from 9 yards out to make it 38-10. After a few more turnovers from the Lancers in the 4th quarter, K John Girard would split the goalpost from 40 yards out to put the finishing touch on their lead being now 41-10. Mountain View would control the tempo the rest the way and close out the game to move on the 6A semifinals. Final Score: Mountain View 41, Salpointe Catholic 10.

What looked like a closely contested matchup quickly became an absolutely dominating performance for the Mountain View Toros. The key difference maker was the turnovers, as Mountain View capitalized on the Lancer's mistakes to put this game out of reach. We will now share some of the stand-out performances from Friday's game.

2026 WR Talan Arnett was an explosive weapon out wide for the Toro's offense. While having 5 catches, he had well over 100 receiving yards on the night and had the opening touchdown of the game from 31 yards out. He is an intelligent route runner, able to work his way around defenders and finds space well on crossing patterns. He has nice natural hands to bring in catches and a true second gear in the open field to turn upfield. Arnett significantly contributed to this fast-striking offensive effort from Mountain View.

2025 Running Back Reese Bodily had himself a night. With over 100 rushing yards on the ground and 3 rushing touchdowns, he added an extra element for this offense to really take off. He quickly plants his foot and gets downhill to hit the rush lane. His contact balance was his most impressive trait, taking plenty of hits while remaining upright and churning away for extra yardage. Bodily was fun to watch dealing out punishment to the defense last night for an outstanding game.

While the Lancers offense may have struggled most of the night, 2025 Offensive Lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1353806' first='Roman' last='Fina'] did not struggle at all. He held up incredibly well in pass protection, getting out of his stance efficiently and firing his powerful hands into the rusher to completely neutralize them from the play. He easily provided his quarterbacks plenty of time to find their targets downfield. Fina was a much-needed anchor on the left side of the offensive line for any offensive output for this Lancers team.

2027 Wide Receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1690398' first='RJ' last='Gory'] was a reliable target for this Lancers team on offense last night. He had 7 catches on the night for about 60 yards to help keep his team ahead of the chains. His speed jumps out as he can get moving in a hurry, exhibiting quickness and agility in space. For his size as well, he was able to hold up well against contact, showing tremendous grit and toughness that you like to see out of a slot receiver. Gory will be a key player for Salpointe Catholic to keep your eyes on for the future.

2025 Defensive Back [player_tooltip player_id='1353869' first='Jasper' last='Lake'] was an absolute ball hawk in the secondary for the Mountain View Torres. He had not one, not two, but three interceptions in the game last night. He showed off incredible rage at the free safety position, moving smoothly across the field with great agility and excellent long speed. He made locating and snagging those interceptions out of the air look easy, as well as returning them back for plenty of extra yardage to help his team flip the field. Lake proved last night he is not to be tested over the middle for this Mountain View defense.

2025 Defensive Back [player_tooltip player_id='1003945' first='Dominic' last='Girard'] was the lockdown man on the outside for this Mountain View defense. He had two pass breakups on the night in addition to having a few tackles, flying around and playing fast. He took away any receiver that was guarding him, showing sound reactive athleticism and excellent mobility. He had perfect technique playing the ball through the receiver to stick his hands out at the perfect time to force the incompletion. It was an awe-inspiring night for this Toro's secondary, and Girard was another key factor for their success.

2025 Linebacker Thomas Regina was a spark plug that this Lancers defense needed. He showed great timing and excellent burst through the gaps as he shot out of a canon, wrapping up the running backs in the backfield. He came with violent aggression and toughness to bring these guys down, giving everything he could. Even with the game out of reach, Thompson never stopped giving it his all.

2025 Defensive Lineman Casey Derrick put up a great fight last night for the Salpointe defense. He had 5 tackles on the night, a few pressures on the quarterback, including a QB hit. He held up on his side of the ball, firing and disengaging at the point of attack to get tackles in the run game. He showed great close on the quarterback, being aggressive and fierce, reminding the opposing quarterback of his presence up front. In his last high school game, Derrick made sure to go out with a stellar performance.

Other Notable Players:

Diego Kish OL Mountain View - From an all-around great offensive line performance, Kish was the main standout. He led the way up front at Center for Mountain View's run plays, such as the QB sneak plays, getting an consistent push at the line of scrimmage to move the chains. He required almost no help on defensive linemen and still was able to move them well off the line of scrimmage. Kish was very impressive last night and will need to continue to be in Mountain View's playoff run.

[player_tooltip player_id='1682389' first='Cannon' last='Raban'] LB Mountain View - Adding to the Mountain View defensive turnover efforts, Raban had a crucial one in the red zone to take away a scoring drive from the Lancers. He was not fooled by the Lancer's trick play and located the football for the INT. Raban made a critical play to help seal the win.

Results and Upcoming Matchups:

Mountain View continues to impress under first-year head coach Andy Litten as they move to 11-1 on the year and into the 6A semifinals. They will have a difficult matchup to make it to the state title, as they will have to go through the #1 seeded Brophy Broncos (10-2) in Downtown Phoenix.

Salpointe Catholic's season ends in disappointment as this will move them to 8-3 on the year. The Lancers still have much to hold their heads up over with a young group that will continue to grow and improve for next season.
