Stars Of The State – Week 9 – Defensive Standouts

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>DE Jason Hubbard – Metrolina Christian – 6 Sacks In Victory – 11 Sacks In Last Two Games - Jason is a talented Senior who is showing off his speed-rushing talents at a very high level right now. He is showing an excellent bend coming off the edge around offensive tackles and causing major disruption in the backfield. Jason is closing in on 20 sacks this season, and should get some recruiting attention as a EDGE pass rushing specialist in my opinion. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>DL [player_tooltip player_id='1357104' first='Jakarei' last='Davis'] – East Rutherford – 5 Tackles, 2 Tackles For Loss, 1.5 Sacks In Victory - Jakarei plays both offensive and defensive line, and as a defensive tackle he had a nice game disrupting the middle of the opposition's offense in this game. Jakarei did a nice job of using his hands to shed blocks along with taking advantage of his overall strength to make an impact on the game. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>DB [player_tooltip player_id='1332132' first='Jaquairus' last='Fields'] – Providence – 2 Interceptions, Pass Breakup, Fumble Recovery In Victory - Jaquarius is having a strong senior season for the Panthers. It was nice to see him show off his ball skills in this game, as he has proven to be a physical presence who can come up and support in the run game. Jaquarius's 2 interceptions showed that he can play disciplined in coverage concepts and affect the game in multiple ways now. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>DB [player_tooltip player_id='1357109' first='Sawyer' last='Ducey'] – Porter Ridge – 9 Tackles, 2 Tackles For Loss, Interception In Loss To Cuthbertson - Sawyer has been a consistent rock of a player that Porter Ridge can depend on in its secondary game in and game out. Sawyer does a great job in run support and tackling in space. Sawyer's interception was a result of consistently being in the right place at the right time, and making game-changing plays that give the Pirates a chance to win. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>DL [player_tooltip player_id='1113123' first='Landen' last='Harding'] – JM Robinson – Freshman Had 6 Tackles, 2 Tackles For Loss, &amp; Sack In Victory - Landen is a young prospect who has some great size and athletic ability already in his development. He will be a player we definitely keep our eyes on to see how he continues to develop over the rest of the season and throughout the off-season. <br><br>DB [player_tooltip player_id='1153738' first='Micah' last='Bright'] – Cox Mill – 5 Tackles, 2 Interceptions Including Pick 6 In Loss To Lake Norman - Micah is a talented player who is having a strong season despite the struggles of his team overall. Micah plays excellent technique in both man and zone coverage, and shows very good ball skills to make plays for the Chargers defense. Micah's size also is a major plus, as he should continue to see recruiting attention as a talented prospect. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>DB Kyle Bynes – Palisades – Had A Pick 6 Interception In Victory - On this play, Kyle played his coverage responsibility well and was in the right place to make a play on the football. Kyle"s speed and athleticism on the long return was also impressive as he had been a part of a Palisades team that is taking the next step as a program this season. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>ATH [player_tooltip player_id='1537784' first='Cameron' last='Johnson'] – Corvian – 122 Rushing Yards, 71 Receiving Yards, 2 TDs, 16 Tackles In Victory - Cameron continues to be a good player in both sides of the ball for the Cardinals. As a defender, Cameron does a great job of making tackles with good technique and physicality. I like how well Cameron reads and reacts to the football from his linebacker position. As a running back, Cameron continues to carry a part of the offensive load with physical running and showing his ability in space catching the football. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
