Near-End-Season Primer: Virginia Academy Patriots

This game will be played at the beautiful Saint James Complex in Springfield, Virginia and it should be filled with action packed highlights. I have covered several players on Coach Obie Woods squad and I am excited to see this team in person for the first time. The Patriots are 3-5 with 3 of the losses by one touchdown or less. This school has a chance to finish the year at .500 and it will start Saturday afternoon against a Mount Zion team that is 1-8 overall. Resto threw for 324 yards and three touchdowns last week in their heartbreaking loss to Saint James. He really can throw very accurately on the run and is not afraid to stand in the pocket. Also very explosive in the return game, Carter is ranked 30th in our 2026 class, he should have more division 1 offers coming soon. Facing a traditional national power tomorrow, I wonder how much he will play on both sides of the ball. Make no mistake he is a division 1 corner but he has 7 touchdowns on the season and Mount Zion's defense is leaky. If he gets his hands on the opposing blocker there is a good chance he is in the backfield disrupting the action. While Carter is the big play threat, [player_tooltip player_id='1525797' first='Marshall' last='Rich'] is the one they rely upon for the tough yards. Here is what my co-worker Cole Laing said about him two weeks ago.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><em>Marshall is a tough runner whose contact balance and strength stick out. He quickly keys the hole and is patient to follow his blocks, and then shows good burst through the hole with his good explosiveness, balance, and acceleration. He is solid in the receiving game and can run basic routes out of the backfield. I broke down his play earlier this month:</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><em>one of the smartest linebackers you will find, he is a pain to block with his combination of strength and speed. Constantly shedding would be blockers, Badi has returned from injury and been as advertised for the Patriots defense. He is instinctive and fast to the football, there are not many running backs in the state who can get by him. He has good closing speed and is impressive in coverage too. Notching 5 touchdown receptions on 25 receptions, Meade is typically Resto's go to target with his blazing speed. His production at receiver did not come as a surprise but his stellar play at defensive back caught me off guard a bit. Somers has good size at corner and is not afraid to stick his nose into any ball carrier. When you watch his tape you can see the high football IQ he displays to go along with his 3.8 GPA.
