With the dominance of the run-game in Iowa, there hasn't been as much room for playmaking WRs or TEs that have surged across the 2024 season in Class 3A, but we still see a lot of great performances coming out of different receivers each week that showcase their potential as potential No. 1 targets moving forward. This week, we take a look at the 5 best WR performances and the 2 best TE performances from week 5 in Class 3A!

[player_tooltip player_id='1406585' first='Brody' last='Cashman'] is one of the top LB prospects in Iowa for the class of 2025, but in the loss to Assumption in week 5, Cashman made a big impact in the passing game. Cashman finished the game with a season-high 10 catches for 141 yards and a touchdown. Cashman had several spectacular catches in his performance, doing a great job in adjusting to the ball and winning one-on-one matchups. He also caught a lot of his passes on out-routes, with his one touchdown coming on a speed-out, in which he dived for the catch at the goal-line. Cashman is Fort Madison's leading receiver right now, and if there is any indication from his performance in week 5, he could very much continue to be the team's top receiver moving forward.

Independence accumulated 286 total passing yards on Friday night against Central DeWitt, and a large chunk of those yardage came from star athlete Ezekiel Symonds. Symonds finished the night with 139 yards on just 5 catches and 2 touchdowns. Symonds has really grown over the season in his route-running, showing great precision and effective cuts on his routes to get open in one-on-one situations. Symonds only has 11 catches this season, but he's turned that into a stunning 356 yards and 6 touchdowns. Symonds will be a player that should earn a strong spot on the rankings to end the season.

Another star LB that also serves a dual-role as a top WR, [player_tooltip player_id='252312' first='Brady' last='Kurt'] was the other star in the passing game against Central Dewitt this week. Kurt finished the night with 136 receiving yards on 8 catches and 2 touchdowns. One thing that really stood out to me is his hand-placement, and how well he utilizes his arms to gain leverage in shedding off blockers, and that translated very well in the passing game when he effortlessly broke off of a DB's block and sped vertically down the field to haul in an 81 yard touchdown pass. Kurt currently ranks 2nd in the state in receiving yards (631) and is one of the best two-way players in the state.

[player_tooltip player_id='773212' first='Ahman' last='Langton'] has been a stellar athlete who's shined on both offense and defense for MOC-Floyd Valley. In the week 5 loss to Carroll, it was his performance on offense that shined brighter on him, as he finished the night with 9 catches for 128 yards and 2 touchdowns. His nimble footwork shined throughout the night, which has helped hone his route-running abilities as he makes quick cuts to change direction and get open. Langton will remain as the main X-Factor for the Dutchmen's football team this season.

On the other side of the shootout performance between Creston and Harlan Community, Harlan finished with 360 total passing yards in the loss. Bryce Van Baale, who's contributions have been prevalent on the defense this season, finished with his best receiving performance of the season, as he finished with a team-high 11 catches for 122 yards. Van Baale proved best as a possession receiver, running short, concise routes, and picking up solid yardage after the catch, and he also proved to be a great run-blocker. Van Baale's role on the offense could expand following his reliable performance on Friday night.

The leading receiver for Harlan Community on Friday night against Cretson was their highly coveted TE prospect, [player_tooltip player_id='245592' first='Jozef' last='Reisz']. Reisz finished with 178 yards on 8 catches and 2 touchdowns. Reisz often lines up out wide, with his size and strong hands allowing him to establish himself as a clear mismatch against opposing CBs. Reisz's best play came off a screen pass, in which he stiff-armed a CB to get outside and raced 68 yards down the sideline to score the first touchdown of the night for Harlan Community. Reisz already has amassed more receiving yards (458) through 5 games this season than he had all of last season, and there's no sign that he will be slowing down any time soon.

Carroll came on the road and spoiled MOC-Floyd Valley's homecoming with a blowout win, and Owen Klocke proved to be unguardable against their defense. Klocke finished the night with 4 catches for 141 yards and 3 touchdowns. Klocke was the go-to target in the passing game on Friday night. Klocke was lined up next to the line of scrimmage, but he won his reps with a quick first step and elusiveness. His first touchdown catch came off a seam pass over the middle in which he got open, and maneuvered through the secondary en route to a 48 yard touchdown play. Klocke has been one of the more natural TEs playing next to the line in comparison to some of the TE's we've seen playing outside this season, and if Klocke can build some more weight, he could really translate his skillset to the next level.
