It was a difficult process of selecting our game for Week 7, but we ended up making the correct choice. I made my way to Chippewa Falls for their showdown with one of the top teams in central WI, the DC Everest Evergreens. The Big Rivers conference (Chippewa Falls) vs Wisconsin Valley conference (DC Everest) battle was the perfect stage for the top talent on each team to truly show off what they can do. In a game of momentum swings and high stakes moments that top talent did indeed show up. Continue reading to see how the game played out, and the highlights from the game.
Game Recap

This game started off red hot from the first offensive snap. On that snap we saw RB Jackson LeMay take the handoff around right tackle and show off his game breaking speed on a 75 yard TD run for the very early 7-0 lead. The Chi-Hi Cardinals quickly got the ball back and let their inside run game take a turn at creating a highlight when RB Drake Daken took the ball up the middle for a 56 yard rushing score and the 13-0 lead. It looked like DC Everest was going to regroup and put together a strong drive, but the Chippewa defense was able to punch the ball out and LB Collin Clary scooped and scored from 63 yards out. The flood gates had been opened at this point it seemed like. The offense of Chippewa Falls was overpowering DC Everest and even their defense was putting up points. However, on their next drive we did see the Evergreens establish a drive. RB Corbin Enzenroth was able to make multiple runs to get the Evergreens on the doorstep before finishing the drive with a 3 yard run up the middle. With the score at Chippewa Falls 19 DC Everest 7 it was looking like the Evergreens may have gotten their footing, but Jackson LeMay didn't let that feeling last long. The senior playmaker took the following kickoff 92 yards to the house to cap off a dominant 27-7 first quarter.

DC Everest didn't ever seem to give up on the game, though. They got punched in the mouth early and often, but they kept trying to fight back. The Evergreens were able to get into the endzone again with just under 6 minutes to play in the half. QB [player_tooltip player_id='1209423' first='Logan' last='George'] found WR Xavier Edwards on a deep connection to get them set up on the goal line. From there, senior RB Black Bangtson punched it in to cut the lead to 15-27. However, there was plenty of time left for the Chi-Hi offense to work their way down the field. That is what they did as QB Noah Potter was able to find Augustana commit [player_tooltip player_id='1380102' first='Jackson' last='Bohland'] in the corner of the endzone for an impressive grab with just :04 left in the half. Chippewa Falls entered the half leading 35-15 and in the driver's seat as they seemed to be in complete control of this game.

The third quarter was a different type of game than the first half was. Both defenses came out battling hard, forcing turnovers and punts. It wasn't until late in the quarter when DC Everest was the team to finally establish a complete drive. That drive was capped off by the hard, downhill running of senior RB [player_tooltip player_id='1312761' first='Blake' last='Bangtson'] as he punched it in from 10 yards out. That cut the deficit heading into the final quarter to Chi-Hi 35 DC Everest 22.

DC Everest used that momentum from the scoring drive to start the 4th quarter off hot. They went to the air with [player_tooltip player_id='1209423' first='Logan' last='George'] as they worked their way down the field. Once in the redzone, the Evergreens schemed up a great play design that got TE Cole O'Brien open across the middle for the easy 15 yard score. That trimmed the gap to 29-35, putting Everest back into this game. The Cardinals weren't going to let them all the way back in, though. Once again it was [player_tooltip player_id='1380102' first='Jackson' last='Bohland'], but this time it was on the ground with some hard running to get it in from 8 yards out. Chippewa Falls did such a good job staying poised, believing in their run game, and winning in the trenches. That is what put them back up by two scores with a 41-29 lead. You know the Evergreens weren't going to lay down either. QB [player_tooltip player_id='1209423' first='Logan' last='George'] again went back to the air, connecting on deep shots and quickly moving the offense into scoring position. With 2:02 to play, [player_tooltip player_id='1312761' first='Blake' last='Bangtson'] ran up the middle for his 3rd score of the day to bring the game back to one score again.

The stakes really got high when DC Everest was able to get the ball back with just under a minute to play. They were able to connect on a couple quick passes and get down to the Chippewa Falls 30 yard line. From there they were able to take one last heave to the endzone, and while the ball made it there the sea of hands were enough to knock the ball away and gave the Chippewa Falls Cardinals the 41-36 victory! This moves both teams to 5-2 on the season with both eye potential deep playoff runs. Good luck to both of these teams the rest of the way!

What a game from Jackson. I usually don't keep an eye on kids that have been committed as much as I do the uncommitted athletes, but Jackson is such an electric player that I can't help but check out the highlights. So getting to watch him in person had me pumped. The senior didn't disappoint. He showed off the range, the hard hitting tackling that even flattened bigger athletes, and impressive ball skills on both offense and defense. Bohland also has strong instincts while playing on the back end of the defense making him a great last line of defense to prevent big plays. Augustana has to be excited to have him coming to town this next fall.

The senior playmaker was a game changer. His speed and vision with the ball were a nightmare to contain. He was able to easily get outside of the contain defender and his speed could erase pursuit angles. He also showed off excellent vision both as a runner and a returner. Jackson was so quick to find blocks and the acceleration he had out of cuts gave him a major advantage over the defense. The senior is clearly an elusive athlete too out in space and between the tackles. He is definitely an athlete to keep an eye on rest of season.

Colton is an intriguing prospect that could be a big time hidden gem for a next level program. He has great length at 6'4" for the OLB/DE position. The senior just needs time to fill out that frame in a college weight room and nutrition program. On the field the edge defender was a menace throughout the night. A big reason why is because the senior plays with a nonstop, high motor. He is on full attack mode until the whistle blows. It isn't just him running around though. Colton does a good job of using that length to create or keep separation. He has effective speed while rushing around the edge that OTs have trouble cutting off. The tools are there to work with.

Chippewa Falls has a loaded OL group with a senior and a pair of juniors to know. One of those juniors is [player_tooltip player_id='1610025' first='Noah' last='King']. King has a huge frame at 6'7" and he easily carries his 260 lbs, which tells me he can easily carry closer to the 280-300 lbs range that is usually needed at the next level. More impressive that the potential within his frame is the movement skills he plays with. The massive lineman has quick feet and excellent body control to be able to pull or attack the second level or instantly get on his DL and put himself in position to wall off his man before they are more than a couple steps out of their stance. The junior has excellent range. Noah is definitely a junior OL to have eyes on over this next year. Big things are ahead for him.

Junior left guard Carson Parker played a huge part in the successful Chippewa Falls run game. The interior OL has a fantastic frame at 6'4" 300 lbs that is packed with talent and future potential. I love the way these Cardinal OL play. Just like with Noah above, Carson has excellent range on the OL. He easily can kick out the far DE or lead up through the opposite B gap and get to the LB. The big man also packs a legitimate punch on contact to create that initial surge in the trenches. Carson is another intriguing prospect in the trenches to know in the Class of 2026.

An under the radar OL prospect that deserves a look in the 6'3" 255 lbs senior Lincoln Hermann. He locked down the right tackle position Friday night. A position that helped spring a lot of big plays thanks to his ability to get outside the contain man and open up the edge for his RBs to attack. The senior also did a good job of getting a push in the trenches to help establish the inside run game. He has size, agility, and some power that is worth looking into.

One of my highly anticipated athletes to watch in this game was the senior RB [player_tooltip player_id='1312761' first='Blake' last='Bangtson']. As you can see from the stat line and the way the game played out, Blake was a big part of how the Evergreens were able to get back into the game. Blake has a well balanced game. He can play between the tackles where he will run behind his pads, keep his balance and create yards after contact. The senior showed vision to find the holes and the power to create holes if nothing was there. He also was able to run with solid speed in space and also was very effective in the screen game thanks to his patience and vision. Blake played like a true three down back who could run inside, outside, and be a receiving option.

One of the best overall players still uncommitted in WI is the OT out of DC Everest. Oscar played like it Friday night. The mammoth OT has a fantastic combination of body control, power, and athleticism. In the run game, Oscar's powerful base and cement hands allowed him to overpower DL with ease as he walked them off the line of scrimmage. When he got to the second level it was unfair as his initial punch was enough to send some LBs to the ground. The senior does a great job of staying balanced and square while attacking his opponent and that keeps him in a position of power. In pass pro the senior showed a powerful anchor and also that he was light on his feet and could get deep into a pass set to cut off speed rush attempts. His ability to change direction to stop counter moves back inside was also impressive. Oscar is one of the best OL in the Class of 2025.

New to my radar is junior WR Xavier Edwards. If he is knew to yours, then you need to change that. The 6'2" 180 lbs WR is an impressive athlete. He is explosive off the line and when elevating for the ball. Xavier brings an accomplished track career to the field. A career that includes a school record in the triple jump. Edwards isn't just a raw athlete though. He did a great job of taking the top off the defense all night long. He could get behind the defense and his ability to track the ball, adjust to it, and also time his jumps to go high point the ball were all fantastic. Plus his strong hands allowed him to hang onto the ball through contact. The junior WR is a serious mismatch out wide that college recruiters need to know about. Get him on your boards quickly.

It wasn't a perfect night for the senior QB, but without him this game would have gotten out of hand and stayed that way. Logan showed impressive poise. Even when he made an error the senior came back out ready to continue to battle on the next drive. That paid off as he was able to pick apart the defense at times underneath and also was able to carve them up deep with his targets to Xavier Edwards. George showed off his mobility too, but not to gain yards. They moved the pocket with him quite a bit and got him throwing on the run, which he really thrived at. The experienced leader proved to be someone his team can lean on as they look to put together a playoff run in a couple weeks.

Another senior was knew to my radar, but kept flashing over and over was senior DT James DeBuhr. He did a good job of battling in the interior of the defensive line as the game went on. Chippewa Falls had success early, but over time James led the way as the Evergreens shut down the inside run bit by bit. He plays with a quick first step and has the ability to create power on contact that helped him get penetration. James' strength was key on multiple 3rd or 4th & very shorts. He was able to power through gaps in those scenarios and stuff running attempts. The senior is definitely someone to reach out to and watch on tape. He was an impact player.

On the back end of the defense was safety [player_tooltip player_id='362305' first='Nevin' last='Poppy']. The senior has a long, lean frame at 6'4" 185 lbs, but that frame was packing a punch throughout the night. Over over over the senior did a great job of reading run and attacking to fill the lane. He made several one on one tackles in space and delivered big shots on several occasions. Poppy's instincts and range got him in position to help against the Cardinal run game, especially the outside run game. The senior also was used in man coverage as a CB throughout the night too and his wide wingspan gave him the ability to recover if ever caught out of position. Nevin did well against the run and pass Friday night showing a well rounded game.
