Daylon scored both of the Wolverines touchdowns in this game. The first touchdown came in the first quarter and was a short run that was set up by his own long run down to the 1 yard line. Daylon's second touchdown was an impressive 59 yard TD run where he straight ran through a linebacker at the 2nd level of the defense. The biggest thing with Daylon is his speed - he is incredibly fast once he gets into the open field. I had a chance to speak with Daylon after the game.

Jared showed off a lot of his escapability and dual-threat potential in this game. The Wolverines had a pretty conservative gameplan in this one, and when Jared was given the chance to throw, he was under pressure a good bit. The good thing was that he really showed that he can move in the pocket and extend plays very well with his legs. Jared did complete a very important pass on 4th down on the final drive of the game for a first down that ultimately set up the game-winning field goal for the Wolverines.

The West Cabarrus defense overall was a very fast defense that got to the football quickly and tackled well in space. I thought amongst the defensive linemen that Kalum was the most impressive individually. Playing defensive end, Kalum consistently got penetration in the backfield on both running and passing plays. Kalum showed a good usage of his hands and combined that with a good get-off at the snap to make plays throughout the game.

Out of the Wolverines' linebacking core, Mekhi was the most impressive to me. I kept consistently seeing #8, his jersey number, being the first to tackles in the running game especially. I thought Mekhi's overall speed and the quick way he diagnosed running plays in the AL Brown offense was really impressive. Mekhi also tackled very well overall, I don't remember seeing very many broken tackles by AL Brown offensive players.

The Wonders also had a pretty conservative gameplan which didn't allow CJ to show too much in the game, but he did record a nice touchdown pass in the red zone which was setup on some nice screen action to deceive the defense. Otherwise, I thought CJ did what he could with running the football from the quarterback position - the Wolverines' defense didn't give him much of an opportunity to show what he could do in space. CJ missed a couple of down field throws that could have kept the chains moving for the Wonders, but his arm strength was impressive.

After nearly rushing for 1500 yards last year as a junior, defenses are definitely keying in on Mekhi and he is facing a lot of crowded fronts and boxes to run against. Despite the increased attention, Mekhi was able to burst through the middle of the Wolverines' defense for a 6 yard touchdown run late in the first half. It appears to me that Mekhi bulked up a little bit this off-season and is running with more power behind his pads. I thought Mekhi did a good job of reading the defense and taking what was there for him - his vision in my opinion is one of his best traits in the interior running game.
