Friday night we went out to eastern Oklahoma to watch 2A-2's top-ranked Vian go on the road and face off with A-1's #5 Pocola. The Wolverines have never lost to Pocola and they didn't start on Friday night. The Wolverines would race out to a big first quarter lead and cruise to a 67-34 victory. The first quarter felt like a track meet as it lasted nearly an hour and ended with Vian leading 33-12. There were touchdowns, turnovers and plenty of big plays all over the field. Junior standout [player_tooltip player_id='424595' first='Masyn' last='Wright'] led the Wolverines to the win with over 300 yards on the ground and below, we take a more in-depth look at some of the top performers from each side of this match-up.

[player_tooltip player_id='1473203' first='Cash' last='Collins'] - Senior Defensive Lineman

Vian senior defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1473203' first='Cash' last='Collins'] was a new name for us but it didn't take long to notice the impact he was having on the defensive line. After sitting out the first few games this season, Collins entered the lineup for the Wolverines on Friday night and provided an immediate impact. He was consistently beating his man and causing problems in the backfield. And it shouldn't be overlooked that Collins was also a starter on the offensive line and was a big part of paving the way for Vian's running game that simply could not be stopped all night. Collins is yet another name to watch moving forward for the Wolverines.

[player_tooltip player_id='1163096' first='Draighton' last='Fletcher'] - Junior Running Back

So when you're sharing the backfield and the carries with a guy that goes for over 300 yards on the ground, it's easy to get overlooked. But junior running back [player_tooltip player_id='1163096' first='Draighton' last='Fletcher'] definitely deserves some recognition here. He finished the night with over 100 yards on the ground and two very impressive touchdown runs. On one in particular, it felt like Fletcher ran over the entire Pocola secondary inside the ten-yard line to walk into the end zone. He definitely had a strong performance and like we mentioned, it's easy to overlook him because of what the other guy did. Nevertheless, Vian has a very dangerous 1-2 punch at running back.

[player_tooltip player_id='913366' first='Jacob' last='Brannick'] - Senior Wide Receiver/Defensive Back

Vian senior [player_tooltip player_id='913366' first='Jacob' last='Brannick'] had a really solid game on both sides of the ball on Friday night. First off, we knew that Brannick was one of Vian's top options in the passing game. He would catch a pair of touchdowns, including his first one that he bobbled in the end zone before hauling it in for six. But the thing that impressed us about his game specifically was his work on the defensive side of the ball. He had a very tall (literally) task at cornerback with being matched up against [player_tooltip player_id='382643' first='Dakotah' last='Terrell'] who measures in around 6'8. So Brannick was giving up close to a foot in the height department but held his own, including getting an interception.

[player_tooltip player_id='424595' first='Masyn' last='Wright'] - Junior Athlete

Vian junior [player_tooltip player_id='424595' first='Masyn' last='Wright'] was the best football player on the field Friday night and it wasn't particularly close. Wright would finish with over 300 yards on the ground and was also productive as a receiver and a kick returner. He had several long touchdowns that got called back otherwise his yardage would have been something that you only see in video games. Wright was also a standout on the defensive side of the ball on Friday. We knew that Wright was special but we hadn't seen him in person until Friday night. He could be a big reason why Vian contends for the 2A-2 championship. He's a special player that played like it Friday night.

[player_tooltip player_id='268315' first='AJ' last='Lyons-Jerrell'] - Senior Running Back/Lineabcker

Pocola senior [player_tooltip player_id='268315' first='AJ' last='Lyons-Jerrell'] has been arguably Pocola's top two-way player for well over two years now. Whether it's been at quarterback, running back, linebacker or pick a position, the Pocola senior has been incredibly productive and finds a way to have an impact. On Friday night, Lyons-Jerrell would finish with a touchdown on the ground and he caught a touchdown. He was also one of the top tacklers on the defensive side of the ball. We really like his game at linebacker but couldn't help but be impressed with how hard he runs the football at running back. Regardless of where he lines up, you know he'll be solid for the Indians.

[player_tooltip player_id='382643' first='Dakotah' last='Terrell'] - Senior Wide Receiver

Pocola senior [player_tooltip player_id='382643' first='Dakotah' last='Terrell'] was near the top of our list of players that we wanted to see in person this season. Because of his unique frame, playmaking ability and the fact that he's been offered by some serious heavy hitters at the D1 level, we had to see it in person. And Terrell was largely kept in check by a very tough Vian defense. He got hit low early on in the game and was dealing with ankle and leg issues off and on throughout the rest of the game. He still led the team in receptions with five on the night and finished with 51 yards. He also had a long kick return that he almost took back for six but you could tell he wasn't 100 percent.

[player_tooltip player_id='1331296' first='Hayden' last='Chaffey'] - Senior Defensive Lineman

Pocola senior defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1331296' first='Hayden' last='Chaffey'] had a really strong first half and he definitely looked like the player that we wrote about prior to this season starting. Chaffey is a potential game-wrecker along the defensive line and he showed that in the first two quarters. He made several stops in the backfield and while Vian was able to win the war when it came to the running game, it was usually by avoiding Chaffey. Now, moving forward, we want him to see that play for all four quarters but you can clearly see that he has some potential as a prospect. He's productive and disruptive and that's what you want on the defensive line.

[player_tooltip player_id='1473214' first='Ja' last='Posey'] - Sophomore Quarterback

We knew that Pocola was airing the ball out this season but this was our first chance to see sophomore quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1473214' first='Ja' last='Posey'] in action. The sophomore would throw for more than 300 yards and eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark for the season and we're just three games in. Despite the loss, Posey showed what he could do at the position and he was more than just a passer. There were several times when he would tuck the ball and take off and was able to make something happen on the ground. There is no doubt that Pocola has weapons at the skill positions and with Posey gaining more confidence, this will be a fun offense to watch.
