It's been as good a start to the season as possible for Martin through 2 weeks. He's coming off of an elite performance Friday and is only getting better. He's versatile and can play in the box as well as in the backend, which is what he did again on Friday. He was in on just about every play it seemed like, but he finished the night with 22 tackles, 7 solos, and 3 TFLs on the night. With 3 picks already this season, if this is Martin turning the page in his development, he's got our attention.

In the big rivalry game, only one side seemed to show up ready to play, and Ramirez and crew feasted on East's offense. Ramirez stood out for a handful of different reasons. His ability to drop back into coverage and make the tackle in open space was impressive. He's a rangy athlete with a good build, so coming up to play in the box wasn't an issue. He ended the night with 12 tackles, 2 TFLs, and 7 hurries. Through 2 weeks he's put up 22 solo tackles which speaks to his football IQ.

Nelson is someone we were excited about heading into the season and covered earlier this season, and so far, he's exceeding expectations. He stands out on the field in a good way. He's tall, he's lean, he's got good length, and is an explosive athlete as well. Through 2 games this season he's tallied 27 tackles, 6 TFLs, 4 sacks, forced a fumble, recovered a fumble, and intercepted a pass that he returned for 60 yards. It doesn't take long to watch Nelson see the potential and get excited.

Stepping up early in the year so far for Luers is Hogue, who is doing it on both sides of the ball this year. He's a good athlete and has always been productive when on the field, but now that he's an upperclassman some of the responsibilities have been shifted his way, and through 2 weeks, he's doing his part. On the season, he's got 16 tackles and a blocked field goal. Once you add in his 3 interceptions from Friday against Leo, you understand why he's here. Hogue helped shut down and suffocate a Leo offense which always seems to have answers, but not Friday against Hogue.

Tucker is going to be one of those recruits who ends up signing somewhere, becoming a productive player for his collegiate program, and then all of the schools around him will ask "Where did he come from?" Well, the answer is Providence High School in Indiana. He's a highly productive, high-motor, and versatile defensive lineman who leads the guys around him. He put up another 3 sacks on Friday and 7 solo tackles, Providence got the win in part because of the defense being on lock. I like Tucker, his ability to lead, and think he's going to be a steal of a prospect.

Broshears has been one of the most productive players in the state since he stepped on the field as a freshman and that hasn't changed. He's started the year off with another big pair of performances. With double-digit solo tackles in both games so far, he's all over the field, but with Broshears it's the consistency. Down after down, series after series, game after game, he's right there to make the tackle. With 15 tackles, 11 solos, and a pair of TFLs again on Friday, it's easy to see why Broshears is on the list this week.

In what appears to be his breakout season, Carnes is off to a great start. He's playing downhill, confident, and initiating contact in the hole. He's matched performances to start the year as well. With 15 total tackles, 9 solo, and a pass deflected, Carnes had a great game overall. While Laporte might not be off to the team start it wants, some of their seniors like Carnes have stepped up in big ways and should right the ship here soon.
