- The Red Hawks improved to 3-1 on the season after a Friday night 27-7 road win over Rockvale where their backfield shined and was the main catalyst behind the victory. The combination of Jerry Taylor, [player_tooltip player_id='497427' first='Caleb' last='Floyd'] and [player_tooltip player_id='219413' first='Jeremy' last='Smith'] proved to be difference makers in this contest that the Rockets defense had a hard time stopping.

The Red Hawks also received a stellar performance from their defense as well. The linebackers in particular played big roles in this win as they shut down the Rockvale rushing attack while making several plays at or behind the line of scrimmage. Overall, this was an excellent win for Stewarts Creek as they continue to build confidence headed into region play, starting next Friday.

Clean and efficient is the narrative for Taylor in his team's 27-7 road win over Rockvale. The Red Hawks junior quarterback had a solid night where he went 11-15 passing for 219 yards and two touchdowns while competing with a calm demeanor that kept his offense poised. Now if you asked Taylor himself, he would tell you that he could have played better and I agree but from an impact and leadership point of view, the Red Hawks junior earned this honor for his command of the team. So far on this young season, Taylor is completing a little more than 60 percent of his passes, which is something every coach wants in their quarterback. He has already led his team to 3 wins and I think he has a shot at leading his team to a region title with continued play like he had in Murfreesboro.

Even though Taylor earned player of the game, I felt like Smith was the most important commodity in the Red Hawks 27-7 win over Rockvale. His speed and ability to get into the open quickly was a problem for the Rockets defense all night long. On several occasions, Smith would take the carry and break loose for big gains and get into open space down field before anybody touched him. His athleticism and speed was definitely a difference maker in Friday night's road win. Smith has also been on a tear this year where he has and is boosting his college stock in a big way.

Sharing the backfield, Floyd was the thunder to Smith's lightning on Friday evening where he softened up the Rockets defense with multiple physical runs through the teeth of the defensive line while producing one touchdown through the air. The Rockets defense had a hard time slowing down Floyd due to his upper body strength and physical running. His deceptive speed showed up on several occasions too that helped separate him from Rockvale defenders. It was an overall solid night for the Red Hawks ball carrier as he showed me a nice combination of power and speed that could develop further on the collegiate stage.

The Rockets defense as a whole didn't have a great night but one shining star was the play up front by Boone. From the 1st quarter till the final whistle, Boone's motor never slowed down and I appreciated seeing that kind of effort from him even with the outcome already settled. His lower body explosion and strength were excellent as well as his get-off. The Red Hawks offensive line had a hard time dealing with Boone as he would consistently get out of his stance fast, get skinny and into the backfield before anybody could get hands on him. It was an excellent individual performance in a loss and one that will make me look harder at Boone moving forward.

(OL) [player_tooltip player_id='1131037' first='Aydian' last='Wise'] - Stewarts Creek: The Red Hawks O-line as a whole had a really good night but I felt Wise was the best. This senior big man showed excellent physicality and tenacity throughout the entire night along with good bend and athleticism coming off the snap. His performance Friday night will make me look deeper into Wise going forward.

(DT/OL) [player_tooltip player_id='1291188' first='Steven' last='Nelson'] - Rockvale: The best two-way lineman for the Rockets in their loss was Nelson, who I actually thought did his best work at defensive tackle. This Rockvale senior showed on several occasions a nice get-off along with powerful hands that pushed his opponent into the backfield. His work on defense showed me that he may be a better fit for that side of the ball in college.

(RB/LB) Marcel Gordon - Stewarts Creek: The impact from Gordon didn't come on offense in this game but it was his active play at linebacker that landed him on this list. The Red Hawks senior was a key performer that made several plays close to the line of scrimmage while also displaying good range out to the sidelines.

‘26 (WR/S) James Stevenson - Rockvale: This junior wideout was possibly the best offensive player for the Rockets in their loss. While he didn't produce a lot of numbers, every time the ball was thrown to him, he caught it and gained some yards after the catch as well. The Rockets should consider giving him the ball a little more forward due to his consistency.

‘26 (LB/RB) [player_tooltip player_id='1131019' first='Keilan' last='Harris'] - Stewarts Creek: A key performer on both sides of the ball for Stewarts Creek, Harris had a solid night where he produced two short yard touchdowns on offense while making several tackles versus the Rockets rushing attack. His work on defense impressed me the most where Harris can continue developing into a solid college prospect at inside linebacker.

‘27 (RB) [player_tooltip player_id='1599122' first='Romeo' last='George'] - Rockvale: This rising sophomore was one of the more pleasant surprises coming off the Rockets team in their loss to Stewarts Creek. George doesn't hesitate when finding the hole as he takes the carry and immediately moves forward. He is a patient runner but with a nice burst into the open field. If he can continue to increase his agility and speed, playing on the college level is a possibility.

(S) Mohammed Ezzulddin - Stewarts Creek: The Red Hawks senior safety flashed big play ability on several occasions throughout his team's road win over Rockvale, including a forced fumble in the 2nd half that resulted in offensive points. Ezzulddin is a team leader and constant presence on the back end that brings consistency to the field week in and week out.
