Brief Recap

- Anticipation for a great game was quickly put to rest early in the 1st quarter as Mt. Juliet striked quickly and didn't lose grip on their way to a 38-21 road region victory over Cookeville. It was an impressive showing from the Golden Bears and a performance that showed who “the” best team is in their region, at least till they face Green Hill but also how formidable Mt. Juliet could be by the time we reach postseason play.

The offense was efficient and dynamic, led by their senior backfield of [player_tooltip player_id='219402' first='Tyler' last='Travers'] and [player_tooltip player_id='219347' first='Jonmikael' last='Crudup'] while the defense completely shut down the Cavs offense, limiting [player_tooltip player_id='353388' first='Blake' last='Owen'] and causing several turnovers. Their secondary was money from start to finish with seniors [player_tooltip player_id='1310658' first='Isaiah' last='Roseberry'], [player_tooltip player_id='1224014' first='Deon' last='Waller'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1472845' first='Tre' last='Redmond'] making plays all over the defensive backfield. Redmond produced a 88 yard pick six in the 3rd quarter that broke the back of Cookeville and pretty much put the game away.

Cookeville was missing star running back [player_tooltip player_id='1201020' first='Thomas' last='Johnson'] but I don't know if it would have made a difference as Mt. Juliet was playing on another level Friday night. The Cavs would put a couple of late touchdowns on the board in the 4th quarter but the damage was done and the Golden Bears would pick up a big road win while inching closer towards winning the region title.

I believe the Cavs will bounce back but for Mt. Juliet, this was a statement win and one they should build on going forward. I do believe the Golden Bears are the class of their region and while Green Hill is right there with them, currently I see Mt. Juliet being the better team, especially with their deep senior class. Those two face each other later in the year but for Friday night, Mt. Juliet was the better team in Upper Cumberland.

The Golden Bears were clean and efficient for most of the night on offense with their captain and signal caller in Travers setting the tone early and continuing his accurate passing throughout his team's big region road win over Cookeville. I don't have the official stats as of now but I know Travers threw for three touchdowns with very little incompletions. He was outstanding in this road victory by doing his job as a passer but also a leader that understood the game plan and executed it flawlessly. Committed to Limestone at the moment, I wouldn't be surprised to see some bigger schools get involved before he signs because Travers stock is going up with performances like Friday night and what he can continue to do the remainder of the season.

The Golden Bears senior defensive back came ready to play on Friday night as he immediately made his presence known on the 2nd offensive series of the game for Cookeville where he picked off Owen and ran it all the way back inside the Cavs ten yard line. Waller would go on to make a ton of tackles on the night (Wouldn't be surprised if he had ten plus) while consistently placing himself around the ball when it was in the air. He was also a key piece on special teams where he made several stops there as well. Waller was an animal in this matchup and a key piece towards the Golden Bears picking up a big road victory.

Much like his teammate above, Crudup started his night fast as he caught a beautiful 20 plus yard pass down the middle of the field from Travers where the Golden Bears back broke away from the pack to put his team on the board first. It was a smooth catch in stride from Crudup but his night wasn't over. Throughout the entire game, this senior ball carrier produced several big runs that resulted in first downs while continuing to display his abilities in the passing game. Crudup added a rushing touchdown early in the 3rd quarter to stretch his team's lead out to seventeen. His production and tough running was certainly needed and a difference maker in this much needed region win.

One of the more underrated seniors we have from the #TN2025 class is this Mid-Tennessee safety that had a stellar showing against the Cavaliers on Friday evening. Just about every time I looked up when the Golden Bears were on defense, Roseberry was right there making the tackle and being a part of the action. This senior safety simply has a nose for the ball but also has a great feel for the game. Roseberry is a heady ball player that understands what he's doing out there while also helping put his teammates in position to succeed. Watching this guy exclusively last night, Roseberry will make a big jump in our next updated senior rankings.

(QB) [player_tooltip player_id='353388' first='Blake' last='Owen'] - Cookeville: Even though his stats won't be big, Owen was a warrior in this game that gave his all and put his body on the line, play in and play out. His tough running produced the only offense in the 1st half as well as it's lone touchdown while also continuing to make tackles over defense for his Cavs team.

(DB) [player_tooltip player_id='1472845' first='Tre' last='Redmond'] - Mt. Juliet: His 88 yd pick six was a backbreaker for Cookeville but Redmond also locked down his side of the field the entire night, not allowing Cavalier receivers to find open space. This is a savvy ball player that has gotten bigger, so look for Redmond's stock to rise over the next few months as a potential FCS sleeper.

(DE/LB) [player_tooltip player_id='250859' first='Atticus' last='Fiorita'] - Mt. Juliet: Yet another game where this Golden Bear edge rusher produces at a high level as Fiorita finished with 11 tackles on the night, one sack and a batted pass that led to Redmond's pick six. The biggest thing I saw from Fiorita was his ability to drop and play in space while also moving around on defense to take advantage of mismatches.

‘26 (WR) Caden Sisco - Cookeville: One of three touchdowns on the night for Cookeville was produced by this junior pass catcher that used his size and speed to break loose from defenders to find the end zone. Sisco is an intriguing guy as he stands 6'3 185 pounds with arm length and the body to pack on a lot of weight as well as showing nice breakaway speed.

(OL) [player_tooltip player_id='1240488' first='Charles' last='Pride'] - Mt. Juliet: A big part of the Golden Bears success on offense was the play of Pride and the Mt. Juliet offensive line. This senior big man paved the way, opening multiple holes throughout the night for Crudup and his ball carriers while also doing a solid job in pass protection as Travers pretty much stayed clean all night long.

(WR) Baylor Osborne - Mt. Juliet: Osborne was the go-to guy for Travers Friday evening, making several clutch catches, including some first downs when they were needed. A sure handed guy, Osborne displayed excellent route running along with the ability to separate from his defender with his physicality and deceptive speed.
