This was our first chance to see defending 5A champion Carl Albert in person outside of a scrimmage or practice setting. The top-ranked Titans went on the road and took care of business in a 70-0 victory over Lawton Eisenhower. It should be noted that both teams were without some of their top players and there was a running clock for the majority of the second half.

The Titans played as close to perfect as you can play in week two of the regular season. They took advantage of almost every possession and even had some defensive touchdowns in the victory. In all three phases, the Titans looked polished and there wasn't much to critique. Offensively, the Titans did what they wanted to do. Defensively, they shut down Eisenhower's offense and that included limiting their star running back. And they made plays in special teams.

Carl Albert has back to back shutouts to start this season after blowing out rival Midwest City last week. They'll need to keep that confidence rolling next week as they have a road showdown with 6A-2's #2 Stillwater in a game that will be among the best in week three.

Plenty of players were making plays in the 70-0 victory. Below, we put the spotlight on seven players that stood out to us at various points throughout the evening.

CARL ALBERT'S TOP PERFORMERS

[player_tooltip player_id='353419' first='Caden' last='Davis'] - Senior Linebacker

For the second straight week, Carl Albert's defense shut out their opponent and the defense looked absolutely dominant. And there's no surprise here, but senior linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='353419' first='Caden' last='Davis'] was one of the more disruptive players on the field on Thursday night. For those unfamiliar with Davis and his game, this is a Carl Albert standout that has been an All State 1st Team selection for us in each of the last two seasons. He's looking to make it three straight 1st Team selections this season and he looks to be well on his way. The thing that always stands out to us about Davis is he just seems to know where the play is going at all times. He has a nose for the football and instincts that make him one of the very best in Oklahoma.

[player_tooltip player_id='1187314' first='Daniel' last='Newton'] - Senior Quarterback

Senior quarterback and Air Force commit [player_tooltip player_id='1187314' first='Daniel' last='Newton'] had a borderline perfect showing on Thursday night. He backed up his performance in the season opener a week ago with another strong one in Lawton. Newton would throw for a score and he also added two more touchdowns on the ground. This comes one week after scoring three rushing touchdowns in the win over Midwest City. The Titans are running a two-quarterback system and Newton is clearly the guy that will bring more of a running element to the field. He's an aggressive runner with a ton of strength and some sneaky moves when he gets out into the open field. He had a few plays on Thursday night that showcased some agility and elusiveness that makes him even scarier as a runner.

[player_tooltip player_id='315784' first='Devin' last='Woodring'] - Senior Quarterback

Through two games, Carl Albert is intent on playing two quarterbacks and senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='315784' first='Devin' last='Woodring'] was the first guy out there on Thursday night. While Newton is more of the running quarterback, Woodring is the pass-first option and he did a good job of distributing the ball to his playmakers. Woodring would finish the night with a pair of passing touchdowns and he even ran in another score in the dominant win. Last week, Woodring had a good showing and he backed that up again on Thursday night. It appears that Carl Albert is going to continue with this two-quarterback system moving forward. After scoring 70 on Thursday night and nearly 50 last week, we can understand why.

[player_tooltip player_id='1539931' first='Lebron' last='Royal'] - Junior Defensive Lineman

The only junior on this breakdown is [player_tooltip player_id='1539931' first='Lebron' last='Royal'] along the defensive line. Simply put, Carl Albert's front seven was absolutely filthy on Thursday night. They owned the line of scrimmage from the start of the game and they did a great job of limiting what Eisenhower could do in the run game as well as put pressure on the quarterback in passing situations. And it all started up front with Royal. The junior lined up primarily as a defensive tackle and he absolutely imploded the interior of the line of scrimmage countless times. Going back and watching the film, Royal had such a sudden burst that it felt like he was taking off before the offensive linemen had even moved. He performed very well and we'll be keeping an eye on him.

[player_tooltip player_id='268373' first='Terry' last='Simmons Jr'] - Senior Running Back

Carl Albert senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='268373' first='Terry' last='Simmons Jr'] or otherwise known as "LT" had a terrific performance in the win on Thursday night. We don't know what the final stat line ended up being but it wouldn't surprise us if it was over the 100-yard mark and flirting with 150 yards on the ground. He also had a rushing touchdown early on in the second half. Simmons leads a Carl Albert backfield that will be running on a lot of teams this season. They were able to run for nearly 300 yards last week as a unit and had another strong showing Thursday. The Carl Albert senior isn't the biggest running running back but he's incredibly strong with the ball and is very tough to bring down. There's a lot of strength and overall burst to his game.

Todd James - Senior Wide Receiver

Going into the game with Lawton Eisenhower, we weren't familiar with senior wide receiver Todd James but that quickly changed on Thursday night. On Carl Albert's very first possession, James would catch a little hitch route, break a tackle immediately and race into the end zone. That wasn't the only big play from James on Thursday night. He would also catch an absolute bomb for his second score on the night as he emerged as one of the top targets in the Carl Albert passing game at least for Thursday night. James didn't have a catch in the season opener against Midwest City but he definitely made an impact against Eisenhower. Which makes this Carl Albert offense even scarier with another target emerging in the pass game.

[player_tooltip player_id='598824' first='Trystan' last='Haynes'] - Senior Athlete

Every time he steps on the field, Carl Albert senior standout [player_tooltip player_id='598824' first='Trystan' last='Haynes'] is going to be arguably the best player on that field. The Oklahoma commit was outstanding once again on Thursday night, making plays in all three phases of the game. He made some terrific catches on offense, even better plays defensively in the secondary and he did a good job of returning punts and even took two of them to the house. Haynes is the complete player and it doesn't matter where he's lined up on the field, he has the potential to make something happen. What's scary for the rest of 5A is that Haynes impacted Thursday's game in all three ways but it was actually a pretty quiet night from him and he could have been even more dominant.
