2025 Texas Rankings Update: Quarterback Overview

This piece gives an overview of the quarterback position looking at the top five prospects, who could rise up the rankings quickly and who just missed out. Russell is extremely athletic when he chooses to tuck it and run, he's brilliant throwing off-platform and can adlib till the very last second to keep a play alive. He knows how to use his eyes to manipulate defenders, he's a capable runner between the tackles, and is just a pure winner (29-1 career record).   Committed to Alabama     [player_tooltip player_id='432374' first='Kevin' last='Sperry'] 6'2" 190, Denton Guyer   Sperry transferred into Guyer after spending a season at Carl Albert High School in Oklahoma. When you throw on the tape you'll see a kid with a rocket arm, exceptional touch as a third-level thrower, and the ability to manipulate the pocket. He's an easy thrower off awkward platforms and has deceptive speed to generate explosive plays on the ground.   Committed to Oklahoma     [player_tooltip player_id='432376' first='Adam' last='Schobel'] 6'5" 200, Columbus   A pocket passer with a quick set-up and release, the arm talent to throw off uneven platforms, and plenty of poise within the pocket. Adam stands tall with defenders charging inward, he can place the football into tight windows and can stretch the field on throws of thirty yards plus with a simple flick of the wrist.   Committed to TCU     [player_tooltip player_id='396978' first='Lloyd' last='Jones III'] 6'4" 200, Hitchcock   Jones is a dynamic runner when he chooses to tuck it and run & has the shake to make defenders look silly in the open. When edge pressure comes, he steps up into the pocket with his eyes searching downfield. He's quite physical making him tough to bring down behind the line, and can alter his arm slot at any moment for awkward window throws. He'll be a great fit for Tech's wide-open-spread offense.   Committed to Texas Tech     [player_tooltip player_id='281706' first='Sawyer' last='Anderson'] 6'0" 185, Parish Episcopal   A creative dual-threat prospect that has some magic to his game. Sawyer has the improvisational skills to extend plays behind the line of scrimmage, he's got relaxed footwork and terrific timing to go along with it. He uses his eyes to move defenders, he's accurate throwing on the run, and has a beautiful compact spiral.   Committed to Purdue   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-dots"/>   Who Could Rise Quickly?   [player_tooltip player_id='205580' first='Kelden' last='Ryan'] 6'2" 185, DeSoto   Ryan transferred into DeSoto from All Saints in Fort Worth and I think he's someone that could have a monster senior year with the weapons the Eagles have on offense. He's extremely athletic, calm under duress, has the touch to take a little something off when need be, and can add some serious zip for tight window hole shots.   Committed to Virginia Tech     [player_tooltip player_id='1421252' first='Chaston' last='Ditta'], 6" 200, Lake Travis   Ditta is like Houdini in the pocket and is so creative when forced to improvise. He's got rhythmic footwork and can drive the football over the middle of the field. He throws the fieldside out with authority, shows consistent ball pacemen on all three levels, and has a bit of a gunslinger-type mentality.   Committed to East Carolina     [player_tooltip player_id='119080' first='Chad' last='Warner'] 6'3" 185, Steele   A highly productive quarterback prospect with a a bit of a sidearm release, shake to evade free rushers, and some serious guts. Warner puts plenty of air under his deep ball, he's a solid anticipatory thrower and uses subtle slides within the pocket to gain extra time while waiting for routes to develop downfield.   Committed to UTEP   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-dots"/>   Who Just Missed Out?   [player_tooltip player_id='277754' first='Kaleb' last='Bailey'] 6'2" 195, North Shore   Kaleb has a fiery release and a smooth follow-through, he's got some serious juice as a runner outside the tackles and is deadly accurate if not forced off his spot.   Charlie Peters, 6'2" 205, Jesuit   A big sleeper in my eyes and a steal for the Ivy League. Charlie has the timing, touch, and accuracy of a high-level quarterback prospect. He plays fearless and has the athletic ability to not only extend plays but also make you pay if a hard edge isn't set.   Committed to Dartmouth   Jax Brown, 6'2", 195, Weiss   He's decisive, has a lightning-quick set-up, and isn't easily rattled by opposing pressure. He's got a live arm and can stretch the field over the top and slices and dices zone coverage when given a clean pocket.   Committed to New Mexico State
