He claimed the top spot by winning the prestigious Elite 11 quarterback challenge, a competition known for identifying the nation’s best high school quarterbacks. Recently, he was named the Quarterback MVP at the Rivals 5-Star Challenge, further cementing his elite status.
Russell possesses all the attributes that define an elite quarterback prospect. He has a big arm capable of making all the throws on the route tree with superb accuracy. He is a passer first, his ability to use his legs to make big plays adds another dimension to his game, making him a dual-threat that defenses must account for. His leadership and playmaking abilities were on full display last season as he guided Duncanville to a stellar 14-1 record and a second straight state championship. He passed for an impressive 3,483 yards and 38 touchdowns, showcasing his dangerous skill set. He also contributed on the ground, rushing for six touchdowns.

Russell was named the MVP of the camp by Elite 11 officials and was unanimously in the top three or four by every recruiting site.
We named him MVP of Day 1 of the event and he had a solid showing on Day 2 as well.
His release is effortless and he had one of the better arms in the camp. He has a ton of confidence and was out to prove he was the best quarterback in the nation.

There were three quarterbacks that separated themselves from the rest of the field and could have been awarded MVP. Russell stood out to me with his consistency and it seemed like he was getting stronger late in the event.
He can sling it as well as anyone at the event and he drives the ball down the field with ease. Russell was putting the ball in the perfect spot on deep balls and throws near the sidelines.
His arm stood out to me and his confidence is off the charts.

Russell has a long, lean athletic frame, he has a strong arm with ability to push the football downfield and he can make throws into small coverage windows with pinpoint accuracy. Keelon has a quick release, he stands tall in the pocket and his awareness in traffic with the ability to escape the rush and make accurate throws are traits that stand out in his game. Russell has the athleticism that makes him a threat in the run game, he runs with power making him tough to bring down in the open field and he has the long speed to make a house call, he broke off a back breaking touchdown in the 6A Division I title game versus North Shore to set the tone for the Panthers. In 2022, Russell threw for 2,377 yards with 22 touchdowns and was a First Team 11-6A All-District Selection in “The District of Doom”. Keelon has the “It Factor”, he plays with a swagger, as the 2022 season progressed he got stronger, which allowed him to make big plays in big moments. Russell has been one of the hottest quarterback recruits this offseason, camping at the Elite 11 Regional, as well the Under Armour Showcase. Keelon has picked up offers from Houston, TCU, Oklahoma State, Purdue, Baylor and Ole Miss this offseason, as programs around the country are in hot pursuit. Russell is one the top returning quarterbacks in the Class of 2025 and he sets his sights on defending the Panthers state title in 2023.
