They've had scrimmages, but now it finally counts in the record books. The butterflies are swirling in the stomachs of the players as they strap it up for the first time in the regular season. Players and teams will set school and state records. Most importantly, however, they'll look to start to put together a season that culminates with an OHSAA State Championship. Today's article takes a look at 20 of week one's biggest individual performances.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>1. QB [player_tooltip player_id='970982' first='Brayden' last='DeVito'] (Shelby)-</strong> The Shelby Whippets took down Madison Comprehensive 40-14 in week 1. Leaving the way was DeVito who threw for 402 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also added 67 yards and 2 touchdowns on the ground.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>2. [player_tooltip player_id='309415' first='Tavien' last='St. Clair'] (Bellefontaine)-</strong> The Ohio State commit accounted for all 6 of the Chieftains touchdowns in A 48-21 win over Sidney. He completed 17-27 passes for 295 and 4 touchdowns through the air. He also had eight rushes for 77 yards in two touchdowns on the ground.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>3. WR [player_tooltip player_id='1429370' first='Braylon' last='Newcomb'] (Bellefontaine)-</strong> a senior receiver, broke a school record for receiving yards in a game after making 13 catches for 235 yards and 3 touchdowns.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>4. LB [player_tooltip player_id='284925' first='Maddox' last='Arnold'] (Elder)-</strong> senior linebacker tallied seven tackles and two sacks on the evening. He also lined up at running back into goal line situations and carried the ball for two touchdowns.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>5. Justice Burnham (Anderson)-</strong> Burnham and the Raptors had a big 51-6 week one win over south Oldham (KY). Burnham completed 12 of 14 passes for 296 yards and 5 touchdowns.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>6. QB Jake LaVerde (Kirtland)-</strong> LaVerde had a huge game on the ground and a 55-34 win versus Dalton. He ran for 341 yards on just 16 carries for a crazy average of 21.3 yards/rush. He scored two touchdowns in the game.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>7. QB Owen Jurjavcic (East Palestine)-</strong> East Palestine opened with a big 45-14 win over Newton Falls. Jurjavcic ran the ball for 228 yards on 19 carries and 2 touchdowns. He completed 6 of his 9 passing attempts for 132 yards and 3 touchdowns.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>8. RB Micheal Deas (Ridgedale)-</strong> Deas carried the ball 31 times for 233 yards and 2 touchdowns in a 14-13 win over Hiltop.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>9. RB [player_tooltip player_id='824948' first='Grady' last='Kinsey'] (Indian Valley)-</strong> Kinsey carried the ball 13 times for 217 yards and 4 touchdowns. That's a whopping average of 16.7 yards per carry. Indian Valley beat Ellet 51-8.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>10. RB Zander Bice (Miller)</strong>- Miller had a tough 34-33 loss week 1 to Eastern. Bice led the Falcons with 200 yards on 26 carries and 3 touchdowns.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>11. RB Dalson Hayes (New Miami)-</strong> Hayes ran for 197 yards on 24 carries and 2 touchdowns in a big 14-8 win over Gamble Montessori.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>12. WR Caden Cutright (Unioto)- </strong>Cutright scored on a 90 yard touchdown reception to put Unioto up 14-0. The Sherman Tanks would never look back in a 45-8 win over Vinton County. Cut right would finish the night with 154 yards on three catches and one touchdown.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>13. QB Drew Luidhart (Eastwood)-</strong> Luidhart completed 17 of his 27 passing attempts for 295 yards and 4 touchdowns in Eastwood's 38– 35 when over Kenton.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>17. QB Darrell Shumpert (Elyria Catholic)-</strong> Elyria Catholic had a tough week one opening loss to Bishop Hartley 48-28. Shipment had a part and all four of the Panthers touchdowns as he threw for 4 TD's on 22 of 37 passing for 252 yards.</p>
