PRZMD Team Preview: Dr. Henry A. Wise Pumas

<p>The Wise Pumas look to reload and make another state championship run after finishing 12-1 last season, and winning their 5th State Title in 8 years. A new man at the helm for Wise as long time OC Steve Rapp takes over as HC after former coach DaLawn Parrish has moved on to take over the head job at Westlake HS. Coach Rapp has run an explosive offense over the years and that looks to continue in 2024 as he has a ton of weapons to play with, along with a stout DL to lead the way on defense.</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">A top 3 player in the state and already committed to Oklahoma, Trent looks to have a dominant senior campaign. He was coming off an offseason injury last fall, so had a slow start to the season. Now fully healthy I expect him to show us this fall why he is rated so highly.</p>   <p>Trent is an interior DL with nice size and athleticism. With wide shoulders and a good lower half, he will continue to add great muscle to his frame. A quick twitch player, Trent is disrupter from the DT position. He has a high motor, active hands, and fluid hips. Allowing him to consistently win at the LOS with his first step explosiveness, leading to him consistently make plays in the backfield. With good power and strength to go along with the twitch, Trent has the makings to be an elite DT. He is also gets reps on the O-line as well, proving to be a valuable piece on both sides of the ball. </p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/iamtrentwilson </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">DeCarlos is key player for the Pumas on both sides of the ball, playing RB & LB. He racked up awards last fall, getting 1st team all state, County Off Player of the Year, and 4A Player of the Year. With over 1400 total yards, 27 TDs, 50 total tckls and 15.5 tfls last season, Young is a key piece to this championship winning team. DeCarlos committed to Temple over the summer after holding over 16 total offers. </p>   <p>A thick build, strong, physical player with deceptive speed, he is capable of making big play after big play. Saw him live take a KR to the house against CH Flowers in their big rivalry game last season. He took it up the middle and ran by everyone in what was pretty much the game changing play for Wise to get the win that game. Temple is looking at him as RB for the next level and he should be able to be an impact player for them. With his low center of gravity, nimble feet and combo of power/explosiveness when he runs, there is versatility in his game. At LB, Young hits like a ton of bricks and flies to ball with violence. A strong tackler and the ability to get downhill as well as sideline to sideline, DeCarlos can get it done as a LB as well. He put together a strong season for the Puma, coming just shy of 1,000 yds rushing, over 1,500 total yds and 15 total TDs. Peyton is an offensive weapon for this team. He's a rocked up RB who is capable of running with some power behind those pads. A threat to make a house call every time he touches the ball, Peyton is a nice combo of speed & quickness. He has shifty feet and will hit the hole and go. Peyton is a threat in the passing game as well. Either out of the backfield or lined up in the slot, he is a do it all playmaker perfect for today's style.</p>   <p>Peyton currently holds double digit offers at the Power 4/FBS level and is an uncommitted 2025 prospect who will be a hot commodity this fall for teams needing a player with some juice. </p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/Peygolive/status/1723879018930340141 </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">Taylor was a bit of a late bloomer at the start of last fall, as he has been mainly a baseball player in the past, making All County as a catcher. He ended up registering 11.5 tfls and 2 sacks, and I am expecting those numbers to rise this season. He is a player with tons of upside still and WVU is getting a potential gem as he committed to them over the summer. </p>   <p>Taylor posses real nice size at 6'3" 250 and looks ever bit the part on the hoof. A good build that will add 30+lbs of thick muscle easily. He can generate a lot of power through his lower half, and him being a baseball player and wrestler certainly helped in the development of that. An explosive athlete, Taylor has nice burst off the snap and active hands. Shows a good swim and ability to slip past the OL to get into the backfield quickly. Has the traits to be a real effective interior pass rusher as he develops. With Taylor and Trent manning the middle of that Puma defensive line, it is going to be hard for any offensive line to contain those 2 talents. </p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/tank3n1x/status/1800924222057017781 </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">The main edge defender for Wise, JP has had an impressive spring/summer picking up his first offer from Del State. I saw John at the Bowie St. camp earlier this spring as well where he had a strong showing all camp long including dominating his 1v1s.</p>   <p>JP is a great body kid, good lean muscle with solid length. He's a natural knee bender and is able to shoot off the LOS staying low and makes it hard for the OL to get into his chest with his movement. Plays with a high energy, gets after it and is full speed every play. He is light on his feet, playing on his toes and showing good COD in his hips. Explosive at the point of attack, JP has shown a nice array of pash rush moves. He is quick and slippery, shows a good slap n rip, spin move, out & in, and true speed rush around the edge. So he can beat you multiple ways.</p>   <p>Expect a big season out of John Paul this fall, I feel he has taken a big step in his development over this last off-season. He is the common case of "if he was 6'4" he'd have bigger offers", but I expect many FCS/High D2 programs to be coming for JP once his mid-year senior tape it out.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/BagJayy_/status/1732151769394766103 </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">Look for Kason to be another piece along this dominate DL Wise is putting together. He didn't get too much play as a junior but should look to step up his role this fall. Saw him live at the Bowie State camp, where he picked up a McDaniel offer. </p>   <p>Kason has a strong lower half, and a nice low center of gravity that allows him to create good leverage. A smooth player with fluid & powerful hips. He can re-direct and go, and generate good power through his hips and generate a strong club move. Look for Kason to be a key player along that line and finishing with a strong senior season and being a quality D2/D3 prospect.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/KGSacks </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">Avery, while a but undersized at LB, is a huge piece to this Wise defense. Finished last fall with 69 tkls, 5 tfls, 2 sacks, and 2 int's, so he is a playmaker in many ways for the team. He currently holds 1 offer from Wheeling, and I expect plenty more to come his way after his senior year. His play impact is too valuable to overlook. </p>   <p>Cade plays fast and physical, covering lots of ground and can play inside our out. Avery's strength comes from his versatility. Will line up in the slot, as an ILB, or on the edge. He can blitz from te edge and get to the QB, can play the flats or drop coverage. Avery also shows good instincts and read & react ability, a high football IQ player. Cade projects well as a hybrid SS/OLB at the next level and will be a nice piece for a D2/D3 school that runs that scheme.</p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/averycade </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">You will see a theme in Wise LB's, and that is playing fast, athletic, and being versatile. Tyvon is mainly an OLB who is capable of fitting into a lot of multiple defensive schemes. At 6'0" with a slapped together frame that should fill out nicely, Tyvon has the size and athleticism that has lead to him holding 2 FBS offers so far. </p>   <p>I broke down Tyvon's play back in the early spring as a LB prospect set to break out, below is an excerpt from that write up:</p>   <p>"A true off ball LB, he can be used in many ways making him a fit in many schemes. Tyvon has a play demeanor that is active and aggressive. He is always on his toes ready to strike and flies to the ball, able to get sideline to sideline. He has real fluid hips that show in multiple ways. He is able to re-direct & chase down ballcarriers. While also being strong in pass coverage. Dropping into zone coverage across the middle or in the flats – he is a ball hawk as a LB racking up multiple INTs this past season including a big one in the 4A state championship game this year."</p>    <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/CallawayTyvon </div></figure>    <p class="text-gray-700">Eric is a player I am excited to see more of this season. He was recently ranked the #4 QB in the 2026 class and he is set to have a huge Jr. season with his skill set along with the weapons he has around him at Wise.</p>   <p>After going 12-0 as a starter last season and leading the Puma's to a state title, Eric looks to continue to build off of that success. He had just under 1,000 yds passing with 15 TDs and 0 interceptions on the year. I expect those numbers to improve a solid amount as Eric leads an explosive Wise offense with new weapons coming this season. Wedge throws a pretty ball, is able to layer it over LBs and between the Safeties with nice touch and accuracy. Capable of working across all 3 levels in the passing game. A nice size QB, at 6'2", Eric stands tall in the pocket and can step up and push the ball downfield. A good athlete and basketball player as well, he is able to escape the pocket to extend the play as well as gain yards on QB designed runs. Eric shows a high football IQ at the QB position, making correct reads quickly and showing good understanding of the offense. Only thing I'd like to see him work on is continuing to strengthen his arm and getting more zip/velocity on his passes.</p>   <p>Coach Rapp is known to be a top QB developer sending multiple QBs to the next level at the Power 4 and FBS/FCS schools. He recently came in as a top 50 overall prospects in our 2027 rankings and the 3rd overall LB. He recorded 23 total tackles and 4 tfls as he rotated in at MLB during the season.</p>   <p>Riley is a thumper inside backer with good size at 6'1" 220 and thick build. He can come downhill, plug and fill and is a strong tackler. He shows good hips and COD ability to read/react and chase down ball carriers.
