Freshman Friday: Week 2

<p>The season is rolling on and Week 2 is here! The varsity teams are preparing for battle in hopes of earning their first or second victory of the early season. While they dial in a focus on pulling off the win we here at Prep Redzone Wisconsin want to focus on another batch of impressive freshmen that have hit our radar. Let's see where these young playmakers are at in the early stages of their development. Enjoy!</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">What a great start to the HS career of Arrowhead RB [player_tooltip player_id='1288135' first='Dylan' last='Puskas']. The freshman put together a great Week 1 performance for the freshman team that highlighted his personal strengths. The RB was able to stand out from his peers in the reps I saw. Both with speed that allowed him to pull away when he hit that second gear and with power. The freshman piled up the broken tackles on his highlights as he ripped through arm tackle after arm tackle. Contact balance is huge for RBs and Dylan is blessed with it. It is apparent that Dylan also seems the field really well as the play unfolds, finding the hole and blockers downfield. I'm excited for what's to come for the freshman RB. However, it is clear that he is a talented prospect because Thomas was already a varsity contributor in Week 1. He helped Logan to a Week 1 win over Ellsworth with his 4 receptions, 50 yards, and 1 tackle. The WR/DB has a good frame at 5'10" 175 lbs to continue to build on. I can't wait to see what he does in Week 2 against Wausau East and any film he is able to get out through the season. Keep an eye out for Thomas over the next few years.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Maxwell is a big framed, big armed QB that is giving the Verona freshman team the chance to really push the ball down the field. The left handed QB has smooth mechanics and throwing motion that will continue to increase in speed as he ages and trains. The freshman is able to get the ball to jump out of his hand and hit the short to intermediate levels on a rope to beat closing DBs. The 2028 also can really let it fly downfield and has shown he can push the ball 40 yards downfield with accuracy. This is definitely an athlete to have on your early radars as he works his way through the ranks.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">The Appleton area is a consistent producer of standout defensive prospects. I'm liking what I'm seeing from LB [player_tooltip player_id='1258906' first='Dashaun' last='Lewis'] when I go back and watch some of his 8th grade highlights. The 2028 has sideline to sideline range, understands pursuit angles, is a hard hitting tackler, and the instincts are there as he quickly reads plays and attacks the ball. The 2028 also brings a physicality to the field that stood out from the crowd as he muscled away block attempts and delivered those big hits. I'm excited to see what the tape looks like as a freshman, if he is able to publish any. I'm glad we have him on our radars going forward.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Connor debuted in the Watch List as an LB, but it looks like the 2028 has switched it WR for Germantown. He didn't waste any time making highlight reel worthy plays right away in Week 1 either. Connor is proving to be a deep threat with speed to stack corners and track down the ball on those deep shots. He has developed strong hand-eye coordination to make those over the shoulder catches at full speed. Plus the concentration to make the grab in traffic is showing signs of strong early development. The 2028 also possesses some noteworthy lateral agility and wiggle with the ball in his hands.
