It was great to get another live look at Dashaun Lewis Dashaun Lewis 6'0" | 195 lbs | LB/EDGE Appleton West | 2028 State WI with pads on. The 6′ 190 lbs athlete has a 6’2″ wingspan, and is clearly built for more of the LB or edge role. But the 2028 found a way onto varsity with his abilities to contribute at DE for West and has continued to ride that and spend his offseason working on making himself even better from that position. Dashaun understands he has the size disadvantage, so he has learned to win in spite of that. Whether it be arm length and hand use, ability to bend the edge, or with an explosive and well timed first step. It will be interesting to see how the 2028 continues to grow and develop.

Dashaun might be a hybrid type LB/EDGE right now, but the reps he showed off the competitive edge from a tweener-type prospect. His hand strength was more forceful than you might have expected at his size as what he showed me in a few reps I watched that he could get downhill on bigger offensive linemen with his low center of gravity. He showed off more twitch with his off hands than what you saw after his sophomore season ended, which is a good sign rolling into the heart of summer camp season.

Dashaun is an athlete I will be interested in seeing how he grows and develops. The 5’11” 195 lbs athlete best projects as an LB, but he plays DE for West so that he can get on the field. In the trenches Dashaun is clearly undersized, but he finds ways to win with short area agility that gets him the angle she needs to beat OL. He uses 6’2″ wingspan to keep or create space that he can use to win his battles. The sophomore has varsity experience in the trenches and should be a staple of the Appleton West defense for years to come.

The Appleton area is a consistent producer of standout defensive prospects. I’m liking what I’m seeing from LB Dashaun Lewis Dashaun Lewis 6'0" | 195 lbs | LB/EDGE Appleton West | 2028 State WI when I go back and watch some of his 8th grade highlights. The 2028 has sideline to sideline range, understands pursuit angles, is a hard hitting tackler, and the instincts are there as he quickly reads plays and attacks the ball. The 2028 also brings a physicality to the field that stood out from the crowd as he muscled away block attempts and delivered those big hits. I’m excited to see what the tape looks like as a freshman, if he is able to publish any. I’m glad we have him on our radars going forward.

A multi-sport athlete that also participates in wrestling and basketball. Based off the eye-test alone, he passes the test in terms of his frame and muscle mass. Obviously an athletic kid, his main position is Linebacker, but he also plays Wide Receiver on the offensive side of the ball. Unfortunately, there isn’t enough film readily available to do a proper evaluation on Lewis as of May 2024.
