The Princeton Tigers made their first state championship appearance in school history in 2023 and have their eyes set on holding a trophy up in Charleston this season. They'll be moving "down" a level to the new Class AAA which now has even more formidable foes with the recent shakeup of classifications. Still, the Tigers remain one of the favorites to reach the big stage again this season with a reloaded roster that only needs to replace a 1,900-yard receiver and Kennedy/Moss Award winner Dom Collins and Air Force OL Signee Eli Campbell which is obviously easier said than done. They added ease to those two big losses with former Graham (VA) 2026 Edge and Penn State commit [player_tooltip player_id='1200316' first='Daniel' last='Jennings'] who returns home to Princeton for his final two years of high school and will greatly boost the Tigers' roster on both sides of the ball. Princeton has as good of a chance to win the title as anyone does in Class AAA and it will be exciting to watch how this season unfolds in that class.

One of the leading rushers in the state from last reason will return to lead the Tigers' rushing attack again in 2024 with 2025 RB [player_tooltip player_id='907182' first='Marquel' last='Lowe']. Although a bit overshadowed by Dom Collins' huge numbers a season ago, Lowe had himself just as good of a year rushing for 1,700 yards and 22 touchdowns while eclipsing over 2,000 all-purpose yards and leading the team in that category. He'll spearhead what should be a balanced offense that should be explosive once again with playmakers at every position. Lowe is a well-rounded running back who can be versatile in every task of the position. He has the speed to take it the distance no matter where he's at on the field and added size this season will only improve his between-the-tackles and short-yardage ability. He's a threat out of the backfield in the passing game too and has traditional receiver experience in the past too.

2025 LB [player_tooltip player_id='909002' first='Jordan' last='Cooper'] returns as a defensive leader for the Tigers again this season and produced a very good junior campaign in 2023. He recently debuted inside of our 2025 Top 200 rankings and could bolster his position in them with another strong year. Cooper picked up offers from both colleges in Bluefield this summer and should receiver more D2 attention this season as a still underrated player in Southern WV.

"2025 Princeton LB [player_tooltip player_id='909002' first='Jordan' last='Cooper'] has been on the cusp of being ranked for a while now and we're finally getting him placed inside of the Top 150. We love the way Cooper plays the game as a thumping downhill linebacker who can play every LB position and has the versatility as a pass rusher or run stopper with the ability to drop into a zone on passing plays. Cooper is a highly physical player who is very stout when making plays at the line of scrimmage and does a nice job tackling through ball carriers and driving them backward. He has great pad level and leverages himself well putting him in a good position to make a play with square shoulders. Cooper has quality athleticism that allows him to make plays in pass coverage at times or make a tackle in space but is at his best near the LOS and getting downhill. Length is the one trait that hurts his ceiling a bit, but Cooper's style of play makes up for it and should be a prospect that D2 schools are targeting."

2025 Princeton DB [player_tooltip player_id='1099584' first='Garrett' last='Mays'] also made his debut in the rankings this summer as a Top 20 defensive back in the state and an under-the-radar player for the Tigers that small colleges need to know this season. Mays produced an All-Coalfields Conference junior season in 2023 and could see an increased role on offense this year as the Tigers try to fill the large void left by Dom Collins at receiver.

Mays was a First Team All-Coalfields performer as a junior and a very athletic DB prospect who plays corner for the Tigers. Although a bit undersized, Mays makes up for his lack of size with speed and quickness while also playing above his weight class. Mays has the speed to stick to his receiver in man coverage and does a nice job of playing the ball in the air and getting his head turned. He's also not afraid to leave his man to play the run and will make open-field tackles. Even as a smaller DB, Mays does a nice job fighting off blockers and playing with high effort to get to ball carriers."

He's a quality athlete who likely translates best as a free safety at the next level but has experience playing strong as well. Howard has the athleticism to play in space with the ability to make tackles in the open field. He has quality pursuit speed and showed flashes of coming downhill with physicality on a runner or creating a PBU. We'd like to see more film of him in pass coverage and playing the ball in the air, but Howard has the speed and quickness to further develop in that area moving forward."

A small college linebacker prospect to know this season is 2025 Princeton LB [player_tooltip player_id='1099555' first='Hezekiah' last='Burnette'] who had an under-the-radar but solid junior season for the Tigers in 2024. Size hinders his ceiling as a prospect a bit, but Burnette would fit in well at a D3 program if he chooses to continue playing after high school. He plays above his size and gets some good power behind his pads as a smaller statured linebacker. Burnette is at his best getting downhill and shooting gaps as a run-stopping middle linebacker. He's a high effort player who reads the run well and puts himself in good positions to make plays.

Jennings recently made his commitment to Penn State and you don't need to be a football expert to know what kind of impact he'll have for the Tigers this season on both sides of the ball. He's an elite high school pass rusher and will form a dynamic 1-2 punch on the edge with fellow 2026 Princeton prospect [player_tooltip player_id='894897' first='Kalum' last='Kiser'] whose duo will be hard to rival in West Virginia. Jennings looked great against his old squad in a recent scrimmage and should put up some eye-popping stats as a defender this season.

He has the makings of a future D1 prospect who is only just scratching the surface of his full potential which is exciting given the success he had during his first year. Princeton has a great building block in Barker with weapons surrounding him to continue their march for a state championship during the next two seasons. Barker has the size, athleticism, and arm talent to develop into a highly sought-after quarterback prospect by his senior year whose prolific sophomore season likely got him on early college radars.

Kiser had a hugely productive sophomore season for the Tigers in his first year with the program and flashed elite pass rush potential in 2023 that should have colleges following him during his junior and senior years. Kiser is dominant in 1-on-1s on the field and at camps with great quickness and explosiveness off the ball. He uses his hands very well and has a bevy of pass-rush moves in his arsenal to use. Mossor was a great secondary option in the passing game as a sophomore and produced an 800-yard and 8 touchdowns season in 2023. Now a year older, Mossor is ready to take over the spotlight in the receiver group and should easily eclipse over 1,000 yards with a healthy season this year. Mossor has very good straight-line speed and showed some elusiveness after the catch as a sophomore that will continue to get better.
2026 WR [player_tooltip player_id='1137701' first='Wyatt' last='Cline'] was overshadowed by some other big-time playmakers last season but provided good depth at receiver for the Tigers who should receive more looks as a junior in 2024. He tested well at the PRZ WV Combine this off-season and is working his way into more opportunities in their explosive offense. Cline debuted in our 2026 rankings this summer and is a name to watch over the next two years as he expands his role on the team.

Here's what we recently said about Cline in our 2026 rankings New Additions article:

"[player_tooltip player_id='1137701' first='Wyatt' last='Cline'] was another participant at our Combine in May and tested well after showing some good things as a sophomore for the state runner-up Tigers in 2023. Cline should have a bigger role in the offense this season after catching 15 passes for 272 yards and 2 touchdowns last season with the graduation of a nearly 2,000-yard receiver. Cline ran a 4.79 40, 4.2 pro shuttle, and 7.2 L Drill at our camp showcasing some high-level athleticism for his age and obvious potential as a receiver prospect. There's limited game film of him to evaluate right now but from seeing him live in person with the raw athleticism he has, Cline should be able to see increased opportunities this season and put more on film moving forward."

2027 Princeton OL [player_tooltip player_id='864598' first='Landyn' last='Moore'] is the early leader for top prospect in the state for his class and was named the #1 overall player and offensive lineman in our debut rankings update for the 2027 class. Moore has all of the gifted size and talent to develop into a future P4 player if he steadily progresses over the next three years.

Here's what we recently said about Moore in our 2027 rankings Debut article:

"Choosing the #1 overall player in the 2027 class at this early stage was an easy choice as Princeton OL [player_tooltip player_id='864598' first='Landyn' last='Moore'] debuts as our top prospect. The 6'5 295 rising sophomore looks to be the next great offensive line prospect out of West Virginia in the making and produced a very good freshman season for the Class AAA state runner-up Tigers in 2023. Outside of his elite size for a young athlete, Moore also has the athleticism to develop into a P4 prospect by the time he's a senior which we've predicted he will do in time. He has gotten in front of coaches from that level this off-season and is getting on their radars early which is a great sign for his future outlook. With that said, there are still areas of improvement needed for Moore to eventually get there, but he has all of the tools to do so. He'll be pushed hard in practice every week by highly ranked 2026 Princeton Edge prospects [player_tooltip player_id='1200316' first='Daniel' last='Jennings'] and [player_tooltip player_id='894897' first='Kalum' last='Kiser'] over the next two seasons which will only make Moore a better player in the long run."
