2024 Team Preview: Corona Del Sol Aztecs

After a 3-7 season but still making a 6A postseason appearance, this program is looking to create consistent playoff success. Already coming in at 6'0 180 frame as just a freshman, his sophomore year campaign is set for high expectations. Bring in 44 total tackles last season, he is a multi-dimensional athlete who we can assume will be used in even more facets of this Aztecs defense and maybe even offense. He has good diagnosis and reaction time at the safety position with solid wrap up ability. His ball skills have tons of potential after snagging an interception in his first games at the varsity level. Patterson has received his first D1 offer from Colorado State thus far. Abril has exceptional acceleration and reading ability flying all around the field. His playmaking ability on the defensive side of the ball was a huge help last season for the Aztecs with his three sacks and a forced fumble. He can easily meet linemen at the point of attack and disengage to go make a tackle. In his limited time on the field, you can see how he can occupy the middle and be a deep threat downfield. Averaging about 19 yards per catch, he will certainly be a QB's best friend for whoever is under center. He is a good short and intermediate route runner. He is excellent in his physicality in yards after the catch, fighting for every inch. He also demonstrated great blocking, especially sealing the edge for the ball carrier to get on the outside. The 1st Team All City Center from last season is ready to improve his success into his senior year. A good pass protector, showing good anchoring ability along with sturdy hands to stand up defensive lineman. He has sound strength and physicality in the run game to get pancakes on those nose tackles. He demonstrates good agility and lateral quickness necessary to seal blocks on the outside for his playmakers. He is also incredibly strong, showing good power at the point of attack with solid striking ability with his hands. He managed to still average almost 12 yards a catch last season despite the stacked wide receiver room. He is a scrappy slot receiver exhibiting great short route running and good hands. With his outstanding elusiveness and speed, he can spring this offense for big plays in an instant.
