2024 Team Preview: Basha Bears Offense

<p>We will continue to preview teams to cover players that you should be on the lookout for when watching these programs. We will now move to the the 6A Premier Division with the Basha Bears offense.</p>   <p>The former Open Division Champions in 2022 are reloading for another exciting season under head coach Chris McDonald. Last season, this team went 10-2 making the Open Division postseason for their third consecutive season before losing in the semifinals to the Centennial Coyotes. This elite program now develops some of the top offensive talent in the state, such as 2024 QB prospect Desmond Williams. They have plenty more talent that we will be focusing on in this article for this upcoming season, both upper and lower classmen.</p>   <p>Here are key weapons to watch out for on the Basha offense:</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">2026 Quarterback Broderick Vehrs will have big shoes to fill with their star QB Williams departing. Vehrs played last season on the junior varsity squad for Basha in order to gain more in-game experience and will most likely take over the reins for this Basha offense. His arm strength is extremely present, throwing the ball with great touch and distance, leveraging his throw for only his playmakers to go get. His athleticism is definitely there, showing good mobility and displaying quality toughness when he takes off and runs with it. An exciting new leader for the Basha program going forward into the 2024 season.</p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/arizonaftbl/status/1806767725479592372 </div></figure>     <p class="text-gray-700">2027 Running Back [player_tooltip player_id='883266' first='Noah' last='Roberts'] is going to be a big time playmaker for this Basha team. A 6'0 185lb freshman last season, he was a huge contributor to one of the most load offenses last season. Racking over 616 scrimmage yards, 340 of those yards rushing, and 4 total TDs, his potential in this offense to be the main workhorse is sky high. A dynamic threat on the ground with his solid frame bringing force when he runs, as well as from the air with reliable hands and yards after the catch ability. Watch out for Roberts to be the focal point for who this Basha team runs their offense through.</p>      <p class="text-gray-700">Electric is the first word you will think of when watching 2025 Wide Receiver [player_tooltip player_id='954309' first='Gio' last='Richardson']. Incredibly nimble and athletic at his 5'10 frame, he will be an open field threat on offense and special teams. Leading the team last season in both catches with 55 and receiving yards with 893, with 10 receiving TDs plus 2 kickoff return TDs should speak for itself. His speed and acceleration are next level when he has open field. He displays an excellent catch radius at receiver to adjust to the ball to make impeccable plays. Richardson has recently announced his commitment to Arizona. He was the leading man on the offensive and special teams front his junior year, and his team will be looking to him to have similar success this season.</p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/Gio_Richardson_/status/1808984694329069616 </div></figure>     <p class="text-gray-700">2025 Wide Receiver Dash Blake will be another dangerous outside piece to this stacked wide receiver core for Basha. The 5'10 junior last season was used as both a wideout in the slot and as a punt returner on special teams. His output last season included 19 catches, 188 receiving yards, and a receiving TD. His production this year should see a larger volume with some senior departures. He is elusive and shifty in both roles, making defenders miss frequently with great change of direction and foot speed. If defenses give these other weapons on this offense too much attention, Blake will make them pay underneath with his dangerous evasive ability.</p>      <p class="text-gray-700">A fun new connection to watch for in this Basha offense this forthcoming season is Vehrs to 2026 Wide Receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1258662' first='Kash' last='Brock']. The 6'2 wideout is a phenomenal athlete who can get downfield in a hurry. Making noise in the offseason heading into his junior year with insane catches like the one down below, Brock looks like a fierce competitor with tons of athletic traits. His vertical is threw the roof, remarkable body control when focusing on making his catches, and can also lay out a good block for his teammates in the run game. With a stack wide receiver room in Basha, look for Brock to be the spark plug of this offense.</p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/WSSArizona/status/1805286360175329359 </div></figure>     <p class="text-gray-700">2027 Offensive Lineman [player_tooltip player_id='677481' first='Jake' last='Hildebrand'] is an already unbelievably refined football player for this Basha team. Standing at a staggering 6'6 285lb frame as just a freshman last year, he has an impressive skillset that is allowing him to have tons of success in his young football career. He gets great push in the run game, utilizing his arm reach to extend on defenders followed by good leg drive to create plenty of room for the ballcarrier to operate. He is sound in pass protection, with exceptional anchoring down ability and firm hands once they are latched on to pass rushers. Heading into his sophomore year with multiple D1 offers, he's a top prospect in the state of Arizona that everyone should have their eyes on.</p>      <p class="text-gray-700">2025 Offensive Lineman [player_tooltip player_id='368914' first='Samuel' last='Garcia'] is an imposing force on the interior of this offensive line. The 6'5 320lb junior last year played primarily at the right guard position but did have snaps at both tackle positions. Garcia is best when he gets to attack in the run game, firing off the ball either as a pulling blocker or base blocker and just laying into defenders with tons of power and hand striking ability. He is also great in pass pro being able to anchor down easily against defensive tackles and displays solid lateral movement to move fluidly. With as many weapons as this offense has, it will be crucial for the senior to buy time for his teammates to get open and create tons of explosive plays.</p>
