Event Recap: PSR BIG Camp Series - PA, CT Prospect Notes Vol. 1

The circuit of back-to-back-to-back weekends on the road has come to a conclusion, as I was fortunate to attend <a href="https://twitter.com/ScoutNickP">Coach Nick Pennisi's</a> PSR BIG Camp Series on Saturday, May 11. This marks the second year in a row that I covered the event. Pennisi has grown his significantly from last year. With over 400 prospects registered for the event, I had my work cut out for me to identify and scout some of the event's standouts. Still yet to play his junior campaign, the 2026 graduate has a tremendous frame (6'4" 210lbs) with plenty of room to add size and pass. Knowing that, he is a threat to play multiple positions with a defensive front that runs any scheme. Size aside, Murray's ability to move is what sets him apart. Murry possesses a tremendous ability to change directions with ease. Additionally, he moves in each direction very well and his hips look as though they are on the precipice of being a routine part of his attack.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Scout's Notebook: Pennsylvania Defensive Backs</h2>   With the little I know about Pennsylvania football, I know that Roman Catholic is one of the Keystone State's premier programs. That said, the class of 2025's [player_tooltip player_id='855288' first='Christian' last='Palmer'] might just be the prospect to earn whatever recruiter who lands him a promotion. Currently Palmer is PRZ PA's #74 overall prospect/#12 at his position. What I saw live was that Palmer has a very fluid and balanced back pedal. This allows him to turn, open up, and run in any direction uninhibited. Palmer also has great instincts and solid eyes. This is evidenced by the tremendous breaks on the ball he had.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Scout's Notebook: Pennsylvania Defensive Line</h2>   As St. Joseph's Prep is Pennsylvania's team-to-beat, [player_tooltip player_id='383354' first='Ryan' last='Zats'] appears to be a 2027 prospect who is determined to keep that reputation going. Zats appears to have been blessed with both tremendous natural strength and been exposed to some outstanding coaching. One rep that Zats took he executed a beautiful long arm. As he attacked the vee of his opponent's chest, he grabbed cloth and twisted his wrist to the sky to make an unbreakable clasp. However, what made this rep so impressive to me was that Zats continued to work for lower leverage, taking his cluster of opposite cloth and working it up toward his opponent's chin/throat area. Zats proceeded to walk his matchup backwards as he was unable to do much given the compromised position Zats placed him in..... Any time I talk to <a href="https://x.com/PRZPAvic">PRZPA's Vic</a> he always seems to massage into our conversation a plug for Imhotep. At the PSR BIG Camp Series I got to take a look at Imhotep's [player_tooltip player_id='402433' first='Amir' last='Blackshear']. The rising sophomore is kind of a 'tweener in terms of size, but this could be - and was - to his advantage when he worked along the interior. First and foremost, he has an outstanding get off, characterized by its consistently and how much ground he gained after his first two steps. Blackshear moved extremely well laterally, which adds to his tremendous closing speed and pursuit. Pass rushing with a plan, Blackshear showcased a very good rip move that was exaggerated to break holds - to only set up a beautiful snatch move during the next spin he took..... We close out with Cheltenham's [player_tooltip player_id='1106599' first='Isaiah' last='Brooks']. After reading up on Brooks' performance at the Prep Redzone PA Camp Series, <a href="https://x.com/PRZPAvic"></a><a href="https://x.com/PRZPAvic">PRZPA's Vic</a> seemed inspired by Brooks' potential to ascend in the position and state rankings; after seeing Brooks' live I am inclined to agree with Vic's assessment. Brooks' highlight of the day came on one spin I watched him take. As Brooks attacked the weak inside shoulder of his opponent, in a demonstration of his speed and power he completely turned it perpendicular to the line of scrimmage. Brooks then opted to violently snatch his opponent to the ground as he ate a mouthful of turf pellets, while Brooks then finished with a sack.
