Simply put, this event was a absolutely awesome. In the midst of a very popular camp weekend where locally both Rutgers and Marist hosted competing camps, Van Curen managed to host over 500 prospects, roughly 65 colleges, well over 150 college coaches, and just one member of the media – me – who will be bringing you the exclusive media coverage of the event.
My exclusive coverage of the event continues with this piece on positional analysis of the group mentioned in the article’s title.
Positional Breakdown: Jersey Quarterbacks
Although he technically lives somewhere in New York,
Crew Colon
Crew
Colon
6'2" | 185 lbs | QB
Paramus Catholic | 2025
NJ
is a Jersey quarterback by proxy, as he is preparing to gear up for Paramus Catholic this fall. Another tall, commanding quarterback at 6’2″, Colon threw an excellent deep ball. He was able to hit on both posts and flags; however, he hit a home run on a post-flag that I saw. Colon was able to use the positioning of his shoulders to influence the defender to be aggressive and drive on the post, only to quickly pivot and deliver a strike on the flag with plenty of room for his receiver to run after the catch…..
Sa’eed Cole
Sa’eed
Cole
5'8" | 165 lbs | QB
East Orange | 2025
NJ
, a rising junior, appears to be the heir apparent this season for the East Orange Jaguars at quarterback. I was impressed with how Cole threw the ball. A bit shorter than most of his contemporaries, the 5’8″ threw a ball that absolutely flew out of his hands. His mechanics appeared clean and he had outstanding command on his throws. I suppose his receivers were similarly impressed after the first few reps with him, as at first, the ball was too hot to handle when rifled out his right arm.
After watching his film and ranking him as the #1 quarterback (#6 overall prospect) in New Jersey’s 2027 class, Elizabeth’s
Arique Fleming
Arique
Fleming
6'2" | 205 lbs | QB
Elizabeth | 2027
State
NJ
is on-track to be a bonafide dude. With a powerful trunk (113″) broad jump and a more than respectable 4.34 pro agility, Fleming has the arm talent to match and makes things look easy. His powerful base equates to a cannon of an arm. Out of all the prospects in attendance, Fleming got the most velocity on his ball when throwing across his body. This velocity and distance also stood out amongst the group, with the only prospect in the same conversation as him being a college transfer candidate. Velocity and distance is far from the only elements of his game, however. Fleming connected on an underneath pass to a running back that had plenty of touch on it; so much so that the same short, underneath route allowed the back to get under it, create separation, and lead to a score with the majority of yardage being YAC. Lastly, Fleming understands timing and developed it quickly with a hodgepodge of receivers, as noted by him throwing an out route before his receiver turned, allowing for uncontested receptions.
Positional Breakdown: Pennsylvania Quarterbacks
Frank Hoogerwerff
Frank
Hoogerwerff
6'1" | 170 lbs | QB
Avon Grove | 2025
State
PA
from Avon Grove must be a Muhammad Ali fan because this prospect floats like a butterfly. As I watched Hoogerwerff move all around the pocket, break contain, and roll out, he showcased extremely light feet. With the feathery feet, Hoogerwerff was able to quickly change direction and position himself in advantageous was to throw the ball; however, such light feet did not prevent him from getting the most on his ball. Hoogerwerff was able to deliver accurate balls with velocity on them….. Exeter Township’s offense figures to include
Riley Martinez
Riley
Martinez
6'2" | 170 lbs | QB
Exeter Township | 2026
State
PA
as a key component to their quarterback room. Martinez has good size at 6’2″ and can deliver a tight spiral. I would encourage Martinez to work on his lower half torque when delivering the ball. I noted that I thought it looked as though he put a lot of emphasis and stress on his shoulder when he went to make throws.
Positional Breakdown: New York, Connecticut Quarterbacks
Fairfield Ludlow (CT) High School sent rising junior quarterback Grant Stupak to showcase his abilities at this event. Stupak appeared to have strong pocket presence and moved around in the pocket very well in all directions. His instinctual movements enabled him to anticipate where his next step should be, get there, and maintain balance in order to get off strong throws….. Centereach’s TJ Doyle was a prospect whose throwing motion is about as refined as they come. Doyle had an extremely quick release, so much so that if you blinked you might have missed it. That said, he gets the ball out in a hurry. This is helpful in the face of pressure when waiting for a deep ball or in the quick game, limiting defenders’ time to react to the ball. His urgency on how he gets the ball out should translate well as he prepares for his senior season.
