The circuit of back-to-back-to-back weekends on the road has come to a conclusion, as I was fortunate to attend Coach Nick Pennisi's PSR BIG Camp Series on Saturday, May 11. This marks the second year in a row that I covered the event. Pennisi has grown his significantly from last year. With over 400 prospects registered for the event, I had my work cut out for me to identify and scout some of the event's standouts. As I feverishly wrote notes, here are my scouting notes from the position group disclosed in this article's title.

Scout's Notebook: Quarterbacks

[player_tooltip player_id='212387' first='Jackson' last='Magley'] ('26) from Randolph is a quarterback prospect with the benefit of time on his hands. What caught my attention about Magley is that he has a strong lower half. Built with a great foundation, Magley projects to be a tough out to tackle low. Additionally, his lower half aids in his throws. When Magley activates said lower half, he gets extra mustard and distance on his throws. A consistent activation of his base also adds to the accuracy of his ball..... St. Peter Prep's [player_tooltip player_id='212405' first='Tyler' last='Bell'] is "the man" in Jersey City. After beating out an upperclassmen last year (who has since transferred) for the job as a sophomore, Bell looks to be their gunslinger for the a three-year stretch. Although I have seen Bell in live in the past, I admittedly did not get the opportunity to throughly scout him this time out due to the sheer number of campers. However, what I did notice about Bell was that he clearly has more "purpose" on his throws than. What I mean by this is that each time threw the ball, Bell delivered firm, fast strikes that had tight spirals. He typically got the ball out early enough to the point that he was not scrambling or holding on for too long for a coverage sack. He took his spins as though he was running a 2-minute offense.

Secaucus' hopes that 2025's [player_tooltip player_id='1284771' first='Marcus' last='Goldsack'] has the golden touch to carry them to a conference title this fall. At 6'1" 170lbs, Goldsack has a good frame with some room to grow and also moved around well. I would want to see Goldsack's lower half improve more as the summer months turn into the fall season. I though that he had to load up his throws just a bit in order to deliver them in time..... A hometown product of the host facility's Monroe Falcons, [player_tooltip player_id='875807' first='Brandon' last='Macaluso'] just looks like a quarterback. Standing at 6'3" and solidly built over 200lbs, Macaluso has the size to see over the line and stature to command an offense. With this, Macaluso had glimpses of brilliance in terms of what you are looking for in a prospect with prototype size. On one deep ball he absolutely let go of a total strike that I thought was going to reign down lightning from the sky. Additionally, he showed that he was capable of leading his receiver to a spot on in-breaking routes. I wish to see Macaluso get the ball out a bit sooner and be more conscientious of his footwork. In doing so he will indicate an increased level of trust in his receivers to make plays and deliver a more consistent ball in the process.

[player_tooltip player_id='991749' first='Ryan' last='Dougherty'] made the short trip up from Manalapan. The rising senior showed mobility and fast feet when creating angles for himself to set up easy throws. Dougherty, and thus Manalapan, would benefit from getting a bit more juice on his throws. As the wind picked up significantly later in the afternoon, his ball - particularly his deep ball - lost steam in the gusts..... For the second week in a row I had the chance to see [player_tooltip player_id='1086008' first='Mahki' last='Brunson'] live and in living color. Brunson has what I would consider an unorthodox bit of footwork. The Camden product seemed to drop back and stay on his tippy toes as he moved throughout the pocket and took his drop. I am not sure what to make of it, but it appears that Brunson makes it work for him. Additionally, Brunson was able to lead his targets very nicely o n the deep ball downfield.
