Leading up to the complete, 75-player list on Monday, we will count down the top 30 in more detail.
And make sure to check back following the release for additional features and notes on the cohort, including a looks at an elite set of young quarterbacks and other prospects to monitor as we see more of them leading up to their sophomore year.
No. 20 Collin DiBetta Collin DiBetta 5'9" | 170 lbs | WR Acadiana | 2027 State LA — 5-9, 170 WR — Acadiana
The younger brother of the Wreckin’ Rams’ junior quarterback, Caden, stood out this past summer as a speedy deep threat on the school’s 7-on-7 team and carried that preparation and momentum right into the fall with some good quickness and vision that helped make him a threat to break any touch for a huge game and the poise and confidence to make some of his biggest plays in high-profile matchups and at pivotal moments.
No. 19 Zyron Forstall Zyron Forstall 6'3" | 220 lbs | DL Jesuit | 2027 State LA — 6-3, 220 DL — Jesuit
We first saw the Blue Jays’ budding standout dropping back and playing in space as an eighth-grader on the 7-on-7 circuit. He’s now listed another 2-3 inches taller and about 30 pounds stronger on the heels of a freshman season holding his own in the trenches in the state’s highest classification and one of its most competitive districts as an explosive defensive end who looks early on to be one of the more disruptive linemen in the class.
No. 18 Karsen Sellers Karsen Sellers 6'1" | 160 lbs | QB Alexandria | 2027 State LA — 6-1, 150 QB — Alexandria
The Trojans’ young quarterback was among the 15U standouts we saw this spring on the 7-on-7 circuit with his tall frame and strong, accurate arm as he made quick decisions and spread the ball around the DR7 NOLA field to his JackBoyz receivers.
No. 17 Javon Vital Javon Vital 5'9" | 150 lbs | ATH Hamilton Christian | 2027 State LA — 5-9, 150 ATH — Hamilton Christian
The lightning-quick athlete stood out as a quarterback, receiver, defensive back, returner and point guard as an eighth-grade starter on both the football and basketball teams. And Vital has continued to sprout up, get stronger and carry himself already as a leader this year as a freshman. Whichever phase (or sport) he’s playing, Vital is among the most dynamic young athletes in the state.
No. 16 Ashton Stark Ashton Stark 5'9" | 150 lbs | WR Lutcher | 2027 State LA — 5-9, 150 WR/ATH — Lutcher
Another of Louisiana’s quickest freshmen, the son of former Louisiana Tech receiver Allen Stark is also among the sharper route-runners in the class and, on top of his explosiveness, already does a great job of using his shifts in gear and subtle movements to shake defenders both before and after the catch to create separation and big plays.
No. 15 Easton Royal Easton Royal 5'10" | 170 lbs | ATH Brother Martin | 2027 State LA — 5-10, 170 ATH — Brother Martin
The youngster of the Crusaders’ deep crew of impressive underclassman pass-catchers we’ve been watching for more than a year now, Royal is a long and more thickly built pass-catcher than most of his 2027 peers, but still with listed 4.6-second 40-yard and 11.47-second 100-meter speed early in his development and a good feel for route-running and finding windows in the defense.
No. 14 Kingston Johnson Kingston Johnson 6'0" | 180 lbs | QB Live Oak | 2027 State LA — 6-0, 180 QB — Live Oak
Of the five quarterbacks in the top 20 of these initial rankings Johnson is the young passer of whom we’ve seen the least thus far in person. But even on his early film and workout footage, his athleticism, quick feet and strong arm stand out. And multiple coaches around the Baton Rouge area sang his praises as “a stud” they consider among the best prospects in the loaded class.
No. 13 Braylun Huglon Braylun Huglon 5'10" | 175 lbs | DB Calvary Baptist | 2027 State LA — 5-10, 175 DB — Calvary Baptist
One of the most decorated players in the class early on, Huglon’s instincts, explosiveness and ball skills were on display right away this fall as he led his state-champion Cavaliers with six interceptions as a freshman. He has a strong build — now listed 15 pounds bigger than last summer’s watch list — and some two-way versatility he should have more opportunities to showcase moving forward.
No. 12 Rontrae Carter Rontrae Carter 5'11" | 165 lbs | DB Archbishop Shaw | 2027 State LA — 5-11, 165 DB — Archbishop Shaw
The Eagles’ young three-sport standout was an all-district performer as an eighth-grader and has continued to develop into one of the top young defensive backs in the state — a hard-hitting tackler who flies from sideline to sideline and creates disruptive plays in the backfield and shows good instincts and ball skills to snatch passes thrown anywhere in his direction.
No. 11 Malachi Zeigler Malachi Zeigler 6'3" | 190 lbs | QB Benton | 2027 State LA — 6-3, 190 QB — Benton
The third quarterback in this initial top 20, the Tigers’ young multisport standout — also a talented baseball player — already has a tall, strong build that stands out not only among his 2027 peers, but in any high school setting, as well as one of the strongest arms in the class.
