Hudl Discoveries #24 - Downriver Pt.2

We're back taking a look at Downriver League! Today, we'll continue coverage by finishing our look at Carlson, and in the next iteration, we'll tale a took at Lincoln Park, Anderson, Taylor, Trenton, Woodhaven, and Wyandotte.   '25 DB | [player_tooltip player_id='1290805' first='Marcelis' last='Smith'] | Carlson | <a href="https://twitter.com/Marcelis_smith">@Marcelis_smith</a>   Celly is a high-upside DB already with solid fundamentals and athletic ability. Against most-all receivers in the downriver league, Celly can go stride for stride on deep streaks/posts. His feet and hips look a little sloppy, but he has good enough speed and ball skills in order to recover successfully. There's definitely next-level upside to Celly's game, and I hope to see him show out this offseason.    '26 S | [player_tooltip player_id='1290807' first='Jacob' last='Collins'] | Carlson | <a href="https://twitter.com/JacobCollins_1">@JacobCollins_1</a>   Love the upside I see with [player_tooltip player_id='1290807' first='Jacob' last='Collins'], especially since he's got two more years to improve. He's a reactive and hard-hitting safety. He's still learning to play the position, and his reaction speed could be improved. However, once he understands what he needs to do, he goes all out. He's listed at 6'1" 165, and he looks the size on film. It also looks like he has long arms and great athletic upside. His run defense looks good when he needs to take an angle, but when someone is running toward him, he tends to give up a few extra yards and resorts to arm tackles. If Jacob can just work on his athleticism and IQ, he'll be a phenomenal safety.    '26 OLB | [player_tooltip player_id='1290811' first='Kennedy' last='Mccurdy'] | Carlson | <a href="https://www.hudl.com/profile/18233606/Kenny-Mccurdy">Hudl</a>   Kennedy has great stuff as an outside linebacker. Drew can play on-ball or off-ball. On-ball, Kennedy is decently explosive off the line of scrimmage and is able to blow by slow offensive linemen. With a few quick block-shedding moves, he could be a great on-ball OLB at the next level. Off-ball, Kennedy reacts well to the run, takes good pursuit angles, and can hit like a truck. He's also rock-solid in zone coverage. I really like the upside at linebacker, and I hope to see him pursue a scholarship in that position moving forward.    '26 LB | [player_tooltip player_id='1290815' first='Teegan' last='Nagy'] | Carlson | <a href="https://twitter.com/teegan_nagy">@teegan_nagy</a>   Teegan plays with a lot of the effort and relentlessness that I just mentioned with Keegan. Where Teegan stands out is his pass defense, where he came down with several interceptions. He also stands out in his blitz ability. As a mike linebacker, Teegan has the reaction time and speed to effectively blitz to at the very least force the opposing quarterback outside of the pocket. He's also a very good run defender, especially between the tackles. There are times when he takes a tad long to diagnose the play, but once he does, Teegan does his best to fill the hole and stop the running back without gaining extra yardage.    '25 WR | [player_tooltip player_id='1259040' first='Javion' last='Cornett-Tillman'] | Lincoln Park | <a href="https://twitter.com/JavionCornett">@JavionCornett</a>   If Javion can polish up his game, he could become a Division 2 target. He already has a higher ceiling than most because of his height, long limbs, and athleticism. There are a few good highlights where he runs downfield for an explosive play. Though, there isn't too much highlight variety. I would love to see Javion practice the entire route tree and work on his combine tests in order to better stand out to colleges this offseason.
