Even more interesting, no team is the clear front runner after 2023. Each team hovered around the .500 mark, setting 2024 up to be a race all the way to the finish. Here are a few players from the division that have the ability to set their team apart from the rest next fall.
One of my favorite players from Freedom Gold for two years straight, South Brunswick’s Chisom Asonye Chisom Asonye 6’1″ | 185 lbs | DL South Brunswick | 2025 State NJ is an absolute wrecking force that needs to be taken seriously. A linebacker that thrives in every facet of the game, Chisom is destructive when he rushes the passer and also a reliable defender in coverage. As a runner, you do not want to have to meet Chisom in the hole. One of the hardest hitters in the state, Chisom will stick a runner up and plant them in the ground any time they run his direction.
Brody Nugent
Brody Nugent
An athletic, “do it all” quarterback from Old Bridge, Brody Nugent is a real deal talent in the division. Throwing for 1217 yards and rushing for another 814, Brody is a swiss army knife of sorts, able to dice up coverages through the air but also tuck it and run for a huge gain.
A powerful left arm, Brody delivers the ball with speed to his receivers. He is very fluid out of his drop back, releasing the ball with the right timing to hit his receivers in stride. As dangerous as he his with his arm, defenses need to worry about Brody calling his own number. He can carve up a defense with his agility and add speed on top of it to leave the defenders behind.
Josh Stephens
Josh Stephens
A linebacker honing from Piscataway, Josh Stephens is the presence you hope to have on your defense in the middle of the field. With excellent play recognition and a nose for the ball, Josh’s quick feet allows him to get out of his stance and into the backfield as soon as a seam opens up. Racking up 80 tackles, 2 interceptions and 2 sacks, Josh consistently made an impact all across the field last season, especially as he blew up runs between the tackles. This is the type of fast twitch linebacker runners rarely get away from once they’re within his grasp.
If you’re looking for big play capabilities out of this division, look no further than Piscataway’s Jahai Johnson Jahai Johnson 6’0″ | 190 lbs | WR Piscataway | 2025 NJ . Jahai’s film screams explosive potential. As a wide receiver, Jahai takes off with elite speed off of the line and breaks on his route sharply to break away from the DB. Jahai’s long strides really allows him to create space from the defender and create a large window for the QB to throw into. And with strong hands to reel the ball in, Jahai will be a tough wideout to stop in 2024.
Logan Fotiadis
Logan Fotiadis
Another larger than life target lining up on the outside, Monroe’s Logan Fotiadis is a receiver that deserves a lot more attention. Logan has the dimensions and hand skills you look for in a number 1 wide receiver. A combination of concentration and strong hands, Logan is a reliable receiver to target even if there’s multiple defenders in the vicinity. Catching 7 touchdowns and 597 yards last fall, don’t be surprised if Logan nears the 1000 yard mark in 2024.
