A number of young athletes have distinguished themselves by showing impressive skills at the JV level and hinting at the potential to become big-name players for varsity this fall. A few of them have even advanced to gain varsity experience, showing poise and talent beyond their years. With the spotlight getting brighter, I expect these QBs to step right into it. Keep an eye on these rising quarterbacks as they prepare for a full year on the varsity level!
Brett is one of my favorite QBs leading this class. He is a pro-style QB, standing at 6’1″ and weighing 195 pounds. Having watched Brett at several offseason events this past winter and fall, he has demonstrated the ability to deliver throws with accuracy. Brett throws a good deep ball that showcases his strength and touch. With his quick release that can neutralize the defense, he also shows patience in the pocket while waiting for plays to develop. Although I have labeled Brett as a pro-style QB, he shows his mobility if given time to tuck the ball and run. He has a nice mixture of traditional and playmaking QB skills. Keep your eye out for Brett to have a great junior year.

Jrue Mangruem
Jrue Mangruem
As the season progressed, Jrue truly elevated his game. He showed an impressive ability to place the ball in tight windows. Stepping into the varsity lineup, he quickly adapted and thrived, demonstrating not only his skill but also his readiness for the next level. His accuracy is one of his best features; he consistently delivers passes that reach his receivers and give them the ability to gain extra yards. He makes strategic throws and remains very calm under pressure, making him a critical player in his team’s offensive success. Put Jrue on your radar for this upcoming season.
John shows he has the ability to deliver the football with accuracy into tight windows, demonstrating his precision and confidence under pressure. His proficiency is particularly notable in his mid-range throws, where he exhibits a high level of efficiency. He makes the most of every opportunity to advance the ball. His height gives him a clear vantage point over defenses, allowing him to spot open receivers and make decisions quickly. Additionally, his mobility in the pocket is a great asset. He navigates the space effectively, avoiding sacks and creating time to execute plays. Overall, his skill set not only enhances his team’s passing game, but he is also a constant threat to defenses, making him one of the standout QBs to watch this upcoming season!

Breon Green
Breon Green
Breon Green looks like the next QB to step into Peoria High’s dynamic offense. Known for his smarts and speed, Breon has a talented arm capable of delivering a ball that zips into the hands of his receivers. His ability to adapt is a key asset. He connects with his targets both within and outside the pocket, proving his versatility. Over the past two years, Breon has torn up defenses at the JV level and has even tasted success in varsity games, boasting a 2-1 record in these appearances. He is a true playmaker, threatening when he can scramble for a 60-yard touchdown or launch a deep ball downfield. With Breon, defenses will be left with a choice: contain his explosive runs or defend against his deep throws. Either way, it’s like picking your poison.
