If you don’t believe me, outside of Air Force who has has head coach Troy Calhoun locked in since the 2007 season, take a closer look at the current head coach of the D1 programs in the state and how long they’ve been there: Northern Colorado (Ed Lamb – 1 season), Colorado (Deion Sanders – 1 season) and Colorado State (Jay Norvell – 2 seasons) . The Box State has a ton of talent in its four borders, we’ll just continue to shine a light on them earlier.
At 6-foot-1 and 275 pounds of violent trench play, Curry was a standout for one of the top youth programs in Colorado during the 2023 season, the Spillionairs. Watching him playing primarily right tackle, opposite big 6-foot-3, Tanner Barnes Tanner Barnes 6’3″ | 255 lbs | OL CO at left tackle, the duo were a pair of impressive bookends up front. He did a nice job of delivering an initial blow to the defensive linemen or linebackers, to stun them for the back to come through. He’ll need to continue to improve his foot work and not just relying on that initial blow to open up the hill, by driving his feet through the man. That said, watching him on film, I don’t think defensive tackle would be a bad option going further too.
Actually a regular season teammate of DJ Curry DJ Curry 6’1″ | 275 lbs | OL CO (listed above), Devaughn Daniels Devaughn Daniels ATH CO is another top kid to know off the Spillionairs team from this past season. Daniels is an interesting prospect that we’ve listed as an Athlete because of his ability to do a lot on the field. He primarily has lined up as a wide receiver and a defensive back, but he’s built a bit more muscular than most other prospects at those positions, at this point. One of my favorite plays I’ve seen Daniels make this year, he took a quick wide receiver screen and stiff arm a defender to the ground before turning up field for a big gain.
The Cherry Creek program has churned out a number of very talented football players over the years, and 2028 wide receiver Tristan Robinson Tristan Robinson 6’0″ | 155 lbs | WR CO looks to be following in those footsteps. Robinson is a really good-looking prospect with size (6-foot and 155-pounds) that creates mismatches, ball skills that make it seem like no pass is out of reach and the ability to create after the catch.
A prospect I was very excited to learn about, Wells is an excellent looking prospect as a defensive end/edge/linebacker type of player. Part of a Carnation Bowl-winning Chatfield program from this past year, Wells is a high-motor kid that uses a combination of speed and quickness to defeat offensive linemen that are slow out of their stance. Right now he’s a good mix of athleticism and power, with a thicker build. I’m interested in seeing his progression over the next couple years, as Wells is set to tackle the field for Valor Christian in the fall.
Highlights
Chatfield had some prospects so nice, we’re writing about kids from the program twice. Arrasita is a two-way player that really impressed offensively as a wide receiver, but even more a defensive back. He comes with encouraging length and really good ball skills for a prospect at this level. Also a member of the Full Gorilla 7v7 team, a program that has annually had some of the top kids in the state, he’s one to be excited about.
