Continue ReadingDuring our rankings debut of the freshmen class it became apparent that there were a handful of athletes who played at the JV level, but easily stood out from the crowd with their talent. Athletes who are well on their way towards developing a skill level and body that can handle the physicality of Friday nights. The athletes in today’s article are ones that I believe can make that leap in talent on the field and make a varsity impact for their team this fall.
The path is there for Brock to step into a varsity role on both sides of the ball as some of the top receiving leaders and PBU/INT leaders are graduating this June. Brock will be one of the top athletes in those position groups. With his instincts and budding football IQ we could see Brock step up and be a big impact in coverage. He made several highlight reel plays in zone coverage. I can easily see him at safety, reading the QB and jumping routes. I can also see Brock winning with his speed out wide on offense. Tremper needs an athlete to breakout in the passing game and I believe he has the twitchy athleticism to consistently get open. I’m expecting a big year from the 2027.
Waukesha South are looking for a new starting QB with both of last year’s signal callers graduating. This will be a competition to watch, but I’m looking for the young playmaker Jordan Garcia Jordan Garcia 6’1″ | 155 lbs | QB Waukesha South | 2027 State WI to win the job. He is talented and young, giving the team several years to build around him.
On tape, the 6’1″ 155 lbs freshman looks well on his way towards developing into a varsity talent. He is a poised, decisive passer who is confident in his abilities. We see him attack the whole field with an arm that can let it fly the deep portions of the field and still accurately hit his man in stride. Jordan is an impressive athlete in the pocket. He has quick feet that can set and fire the ball out, slide to avoid pressure, or scramble around the pocket and outside of it while keeping his eyes downfield. The building blocks are there for Garcia to grow and develop. Don’t be surprised to see him on the field on Fridays.
Another 2027 QB that I expect to be in a competition for QB1 is Cole Erdmann Cole Erdmann 6’2″ | 180 lbs | QB Hamilton Sussex | 2027 State WI . Whoever wins the job for Hamilton Sussex will have high expectations for the fall after what the previous QBs have done in this offense. I’m very confident in Cole’s abilities to become an impact starter over the years, and I think we can start to get glimpses of it this fall potentially.
Cole is an impressive athlete. He pairs an impressive 6’2″ 175 lbs frame with 4.7 speed making him a legitimate dual threat QB. The tape shows a QB who can beat pursuit angles, finds and sets up blocks, and has a little bit of wiggle in one on one situations.
As a passer, Cole has a naturally strong arm. Even when throwing to the intermediate and deep levels he can keep it on a rope instead of floating it out there. In the short passing Erdmann has impressive tape. He can catch and throw in an instant with zip on the ball to hit tight windows. None of these high velocity throws would matter without accuracy and Cole has developed that too. He is a well rounded prospect who is sure to continue to move up this ranking as time goes on.
Highlights
Asher is a fun prospect to watch, and he finds himself in a situation that could get him on the field a good amount this fall. The top three rushers from 2023 are all graduating seniors. That leaves one back with 25+ carries, Donald Spivey III Donald Spivey III RB Verona | 2025 WI , and Asher to compete for the new starting job.
Of those three, Asher is the biggest of the bunch at 5’9″ 175 lbs. On tape, Asher made his share of breakaway plays thanks to his vision to find the seams of daylight and enough speed to get through them before they close. Even when they did close, Asher has shown the contact balance to fight through arm tackle attempts and pick up the tough yards. Asher is a one cut back who hits his aiming point, runs hard, and consistently created big plays at the JV level. Look for him to show up on Friday nights.
This will be an interesting prospect to watch this fall. Neenah fielded an excellent defense in 2023 and they return several key contributors. However, there are a few LBs who are graduating and those spots need to be filled. Among those competing for the job should be the 6’1″ 200 lbs Levi Boivin Levi Boivin 6’1″ | 200 lbs | LB Neenah | 2027 State WI .
The first takeaway on tape is that Levi does a great job of playing in the box. He moves around the front seven without getting hung up on blocks. Levi is quick to find and close on the ball, leaving the OL little time to get up to him. Even when he does engage, he has the strength to quickly shed the block and stay on his path to the ball. If he can continue to develop physically and athletically he could find his way into a Friday night role. We will see him make a big jump in the rankings if he does that as well. Check out the freshman’s tape below.
