I consider arm talent to be one’s natural ability to throw the ball deep downfield with relatively consistent accuracy and consistent mechanics. The prospects I list below are those who have the biggest arms, can chuck the ball deep downfield with ease, and have a high ceiling. It so happens that there are five quarterbacks that come to my mind when I think about pure arm talent.
Jonathan Pittman Jonathan Pittman 6'1" | 205 lbs | QB Mona Shores | 2025 State MI | Mona Shores | Hudl
Pittman has legit Division 1 arm talent and size. I’ve seen him several times in person, both at offseason camps and on Friday nights. His ability to throw the ball downfield is both natural and effortless. He excels at throwing up deep fade/streak routes to allow his receivers to go up and make a play. That throw in particular is one I’ve seen him make several times with good accuracy. Other aspects of his game aren’t where they need to be to get that Division 1 attention. But his pure arm talent is some of the best I’ve seen. I’d still love to see him improve on his processing ability, overall accuracy, and poise in big situations.
Aspen Keyes Aspen Keyes 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Grand Ledge | 2025 MI | Jackson
Aspen is a Quarterback who’s name has fallen out of the media landscape for a bit, but when he was a freshman, he was a highly-touted young prospect. This hype wasn’t for nothing, as Aspen has some phenomenal natural abilities. One of those abilities is great natural arm talent. I’ve only seen him once in the past year, but at the MHSAA Showcase in Jackson last year, Aspen really impressed me with the way the ball was coming out of his hands. He put a lot of zip on the ball and demonstrated decent downfield accuracy and great throw power in the short-intermediate game. Aspen still has amazing potential as a quarterback, just as much as people were hyping him up a few years ago. I really hope he can put everything else together to become the prospect I know he’s capable of being.
Preston Otter Preston Otter 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB Phillips Exeter Academy | 2025 MI | Saginaw Nouvel CC | Hudl
Every time I’ve seen Otter throw, I am highly impressed by his arm talent. Several times last offseason, he showed the ability to make any throw against any coverage in a 7-on-7 situation. I remember the Grand Valley camp specifically, where everyone from the players, college coaches, and scouts were highly impressed with a lot of the deep throws Preston was converting. He hasn’t gotten the recruiting attention I think he deserves, and I hope he gets it soon. Wherever he is next season, it should be an opportunity to continue to grow and improve his game.
Cooper Nye Cooper Nye 6'3" | 220 lbs | QB Airport | 2024 State MI | Airport | Hudl (Ferris State Commit)
I’ve written a similar evaluation to what I’m about to write several times. But I cannot stress enough the talent Cooper holds. Years ago, I fell in love with his sophomore tape and was extremely impressed with the way the ball came out of his hands. More specifically, I’ve compared his quick throwing motion to that of Aaron Rodgers and Zach Wilson. Especially with Zach Wilson, that quick throwing motion is known to be great for slinging the ball downfield but can pose mechanical issues that lead to accuracy problems. Cooper is a great QB, but I did see him struggle with some of his accuracy during last offseason. I think Ferris is a perfect fit for him, as he’ll be in a QB room with guys like Zak Ahern and others with similarly great arm talent.
Tommy Carr Tommy Carr 6'1" | 160 lbs | QB Saline | 2026 State MI | Saline | Hudl
Look out for Tommy Carr Tommy Carr 6'1" | 160 lbs | QB Saline | 2026 State MI next season. Just like his brother, the arm talent there is insanely promising. He has that quick gunslinger throwing motion, and the ball just launches out of his hand. If the rest of his game is anything similar to his brother, then he’ll be a very highly-touted prospect soon.
