Throughout the month of February, Prep Redzone Oklahoma is updating our prospect rankings for each class. And for the state’s 2027 class, we’re debuting the first batch of rankings. Yesterday, we released the 2027 Top 25 and throughout the week, we’ll be putting the spotlight on different players and position groups. In this post, we’re putting that spotlight on the running back and wide receiver position. These seven prospects have already made an impact on the varsity level or show flashes of extreme promise moving forward. Earlier this week, Broken Arrow running back Octavian Roberson Octavian Roberson 6'0" | 165 lbs | RB Broken Arrow | 2027 State OK was covered in our Top Five Spotlight. Keep it locked in to Prep Redzone Oklahoma for more prospect breakdowns within the 2027 class. And check back each Monday this month for another class update!
Stillwater was pretty senior-heavy on the offensive side of the ball at the skill positions. They had a ton of experience returning but despite that, freshman Deakon Jones Deakon Jones 6’1″ | 170 lbs | WR Stillwater | 2027 State OK worked his way into the lineup and gave the Pioneers an impact player on that side of the ball. Jones had a good showing in the state championship game and really in the last four or five games when Stillwater lost their leading receiver. Jones elevated his game and didn’t shy away from big moments like a district title showdown with Muskogee in week ten or any of the playoff games. Moving forward, it’s expected that Jones will be the go-to receiver and don’t be surprised if his production absolutely explodes as early as this fall. We’ll get the benefit of seeing Jones quite a bit this spring on the 7v7 circuit as he plays with Sooner 7.
Salina freshman wide receiver Cooper Hooker Cooper Hooker 5’10” | 145 lbs | WR Salina | 2027 State OK was absolutely electric when he had the football in his hands. You can certainly make the argument that Hooker was the most productive offensive player in the state’s freshman class during the 2023 season. We had multiple coaches from opposing teams reach out to us during the season and say that Hooker was the real deal and the fact that he’s just a freshman is eye-opening. He was incredibly productive at the wide receiver position and then also helped out and was a game changer in special teams as a kick returner. It will be interesting to see how much he continues to develop physically moving forward. But as of right now, he certainly belongs in the conversation as a top ten prospect. Just like Jones, we’ll see Hooker quite a bit this spring.

It should be no surprise but Booker T Washington has some potentially special prospects in the 2027 class. Tight end Braxton Daniel Braxton Daniel 6’3″ | 185 lbs | TE Jenks | 2027 State OK came into his freshman season with some hype and he was circled as one of those 2027 guys that could turn out to be special. He’s an outstanding two-sport athlete and had a lot of success before entering high school. Daniel is a big tight end hybrid-type prospect where he could split out at wide receiver or line up on the end of the line of scrimmage. Daniel is athletic enough to act as a wide receiver but he’s also big and physical enough to be a traditional tight end. The Hornets struggled as a team in 2023 but they’ll get a fresh start this fall, dropping down to Class 5A for the next two seasons. We’re looking forward to seeing how Daniel’s production

Switching over to the running back position with our next prospect. Mustang freshman Taven Brown Taven Brown 6’1″ | 200 lbs | RB Mustang | 2027 State OK didn’t get as much varsity playing time as the other prospects on this breakdown. But Brown will certainly get an opportunity to have that breakout moment this fall. Brown was behind an experienced senior on the depth chart but there was a lot of hype around Brown coming into his freshman season. We know that the Mustang coaches are excited about the potential of Brown and this freshman class as a whole. So don’t be surprised if Brown is one of the top breakout running backs in 6A-1 this fall. When we’ve gotten a chance to see Brown in person, he has impressed us with blazing speed and good size for how quick he is. He’s just waiting for his moment to prove it underneath the Friday night lights.

Coweta freshman running back Brock Heilmann Brock Heilmann 5’10” | 175 lbs | RB Coweta | 2027 State OK is another running back prospect to watch moving forward. Heilmann was known prior to his freshman season as a name to watch in this class. And like Brown, Heilmann was behind an experienced senior on the depth chart. But Heilmann saw quite a bit of playing time last fall and now that he should be the top guy in the depth chart, we could see his production absolutely explode. We benefitted from not only seeing the Coweta standout on tape but he performed very well in our camp just a week ago in Broken Arrow. Heilmann is incredibly shifty and he still has room to grow physically. We’re looking forward to seeing what he can do when his workload goes up. Everyone around Coweta is a big believer in this young standout and the ceiling is very high.

Millwood is going to have a very talented and experienced backfield for the next several seasons. Some of their top playmakers on offense, specifically at quarterback or running back are just sophomores or freshmen. 2027 running back Anthony Keys Anthony Keys RB Millwood | 2027 State OK found his way into the backfield during the 2023 season and he was one of three running backs that the Falcons primarily used their run to another state championship game. Keys was absolutely electric with the football in his hands and he clearly has a bright future. The Falcons have two running backs that fit that category moving forward in the 2026 and 2027 classes and they’ll be one of the deepest teams in the state at running back. It will be interesting to see how the Falcons get creative with getting a player like Keys on the field moving forward.
We were told prior to the 2023 season that Cascia Hall would be moving from a run-first offense to pass-first and we could see the Commandos passing it 30+ times a game. That ended up happening and we saw freshman Fisher Lai Fisher Lai 5’10” | WR Cascia Hall | 2027 OK enjoy a breakout season. He was one of the more productive wide receivers in the state’s freshman class in 2023 and he certainly has genetics on his size. Lai’s older brother Cooper was a star quarterback and safety for Cascia Hall just a few years ago. Fisher can absolutely fly with the ball in his hands but one thing that really stands out to us about his game is his route running. He simply knows how to get open. And as Cascia Hall continues to get more comfortable in their new pass-first offense, we could end up seeing this Cascia freshman shatter some school records.
