Throughout the month of February, Prep Redzone Oklahoma is updating our prospect rankings for each class. And for the state’s 2027 class, we’re debuting the first batch of rankings. On Monday, we released the 2027 Top 25 and throughout the week, we’ll be putting the spotlight on different players and position groups. In this post, we’re putting that spotlight on five prospects who are listed as athletes. The one thing these five guys have in common is their versatility. Keep it locked in to Prep Redzone Oklahoma for more 2027 breakdowns!
Whenever you’re talking about the freshman class in any given year, a buzz word that comes up a lot is potential. And there might not be another prospect in this class where that fits more than Kaleb Blackwolf Kaleb Blackwolf 6’0″ | 190 lbs | ATH El Reno | 2027 State OK out of El Reno. Blackwolf is electric with the football in his hands and the 2024 season could be a breakout moment for him. El Reno had a running back that ran for over 2,000 yards in 2023 so Blackwolf’s opportunities were limited. He’s also a star on the basketball floor but he could have a higher ceiling on the gridiron. If he gets more of a workload, expect him to produce.

Edmond Memorial freshman Colton McComb Colton McComb 6’2″ | 195 lbs | ATH Edmond Memorial | 2027 State OK was a player that we had an eye on prior to the 2023 season after watching him in 7v7 tournaments and at our PRZ-Next camp last spring. Out of the five prospects on this breakdown, it might be the toughest to pin down a position for McComb moving forward. We’ve seen him work at tight end, wide receiver and going to the defensive side of the ball int he front seven. McComb is also the younger brother of 2025 Kansas QB commit David so you know the genetics are on his side. We’re looking forward to seeing his continued development.

Choctaw has been a program that has been consistently putting out athletes year after year and it’s possible that Israel Hammons Israel Hammons 6’3″ | 210 lbs | ATH Choctaw | 2027 OK is the next up from the Yellowjackets. We cannot wait to see Hammons with the pads on this spring and into the fall because we’ve seen him play basketball and the kid can jump out of the gym. The last time we said that about a Choctaw standout, it was regarding 2024 defensive end Will Smith Will Smith 6’4″ | 240 lbs | DL Choctaw | 2024 State OK and he turned into one of the state’s top edge rushers. We’ll be able to talk more about Hammons when we see him in pads but it’s clear that there’s a lot of potential here.

You can’t coach speed and for Newcastle, they have two outstanding wide receivers and overall athletes that could fit that description. Freshman Jalen Lane Jalen Lane 5’9″ | ATH Newcastle | 2027 OK had a great 2023 season as he would end up leading the team in receiving touchdowns. The Racers bring back almost all their production from the wide receiver position and their top running back so this offense could be among the best in Class 4A. Lane has that track speed that makes him so tough to stop in the open field. And the best part for Newcastle is they don’t just have one Lane to provide fireworks on offense.
While Jalen led the Racers in receiving touchdowns, it was Jordan Lane Jordan Lane 5’9″ | ATH Newcastle | 2027 OK who led Newcastle in receiving yards last season as a freshman. We told you, this is a Newcastle team to keep an eye on moving forward with some really talented playmakers in the state’s 2026 and 2027 classes. Just like Jalen, Jordan possesses unreal speed and as he continues to develop all the other attributes at wide receiver or just a general playmaker, he’s going to be a big name to watch. Newcastle is going to be a fun team to watch offensively with all the weapons they have coming back for this season.
