There are plenty of them to highlight throughout New Jersey, and I’ll cover the others soon, but here we will cover 5 returning running backs that put up some of the most prolific stats in their junior seasons. Primed for absolute monster senior years, keep an eye on these five running backs that are set to dominate across the state.
Rahmel Anderson
Rahmel Anderson
The leading rusher returning for his senior year, Lakewood’s Rahmel Anderson is ready to repeat his success in 2024. Lining up from the quarterback position, Rahmel was able to amass 2196 yards and 23 touchdowns last season. Built to sprint, Rahmel is an absolute terror to defenses when he runs between the tackles. He gets out of the backfield quickly and onto the second level, forcing poor angles on defenders all game long. Rahmel is extremely smooth in his running style, shaking off would-be tacklers as he follows his lead blockers to daylight. Get ready for another big year out of Rahmel next season.
Arguably the most impressive running back in the state, Bryce Belinfanti Bryce Belinfanti 5’8″ | 160 lbs | RB Woodstown | 2025 NJ exploded onto the scene in 2023. Rushing for 1740 yards and 21 touchdowns last season, the Woodstown running back has unmatched quickness coming out of the backfield. Running like he is shot out of a cannon, Bryce pierces through the line and is able to cut decisively and immediately to avoid defenders reach. Extremely sharp in his cutting abilities, Bryce is able to anticipate the defensive flow better than anyone else in the state. Recruiters need to get their eyes on Bryce before it’s too late.
A two way starter that could play at the next level on either side of the ball, the Penn State commit DJ McClary DJ McClary 6’1″ | 185 lbs | ATH Henry Snyder | 2025 State NJ lit up the scoreboard in 2023 as he found the end zone 19 times and ran for 1420 yards. Patient through the hole, DJ waits for his opportunity and kicks it into second gear once he sees the lane open up. What is most impressive is DJ can make a big play out of practically nothing. When the defenders have closed in on him and it looks like there’s no path left to choose, DJ rips through a host of arm tackles and emerges in a full sprint down the sideline. Listed as a linebacker on 247, Snyder’s DJ McClary DJ McClary 6’1″ | 185 lbs | ATH Henry Snyder | 2025 State NJ is lethal on the offensive side of the ball as well.
A running back I was very high on entering the 2023 season, Sylas White Sylas White 5’9″ | 165 lbs | RB Boonton | 2025 NJ lived up to the expectation last fall. A talented running back coming out of Boonton, Sylas was able to rack up 1362 yards on the ground and 18 touchdowns in his junior season. With plenty of opportunities out of a run dominant offensive scheme, Sylas displayed great acceleration out of the backfield as he outran his competitors. What stands out the most for Sylas is his elusiveness and great peripheral vision. He is able to cut in and out of traffic forcing defenders to second guess where he is going, all the while being able to see the play develop in front of him. This is a back that needs much more recognition.
Kevin Regula
Kevin Regula
Kevin Regula surpassed the 1000 yard rush mark and ran in nearly 20 touchdowns as he exploded onto the scene for Pascack Valley. Another running back that is going to break multiple tackles on his way into the open field, Kevin turns up field with authority and brings regret to any defender trying to tackle him up high. Though I would put Kevin more in the “power running back” category, he has the speed to break away from defenders pursuing him. On top of that, Kevin shows great vision with the ball in his hands as he is able to carve through the secondary. Look for another big performance out of Kevin next fall.
