In this post, we’re putting the spotlight on the quarterback position. These guys were the best of the best at the quarterback position. 2026 quarterback Conner Quintero Conner Quintero 6'0" | 180 lbs | QB Oklahoma | 2026 State OK was covered earlier this week in our spotlight on the positional MVPs from the camp. Keep it locked in to Prep Redzone Oklahoma for more camp breakdowns!
2026 quarterback Justin Whitaker Justin Whitaker 5’11” | 150 lbs | QB Lewisville | 2026 TX made the drive up from Texas and put on a show on Sunday. The Texas gunslinger ended up being one of the best quarterbacks in attendance and he was right there with Quintero in the running for MVP at the quarterback position. When I got a chance to watch Whitaker throwing, the thing that really stood out was how effortless it looked. A simple flick of the wrist and that ball was gone and on a rope. After talking with some of the coaches, they echoed that observation and Whitaker’s game was just very smooth all around. He’s going to be a name to keep an eye on in the future and we’re looking forward to seeing what he does this fall. He already does so many things well and there’s still room to grow his game.

When we got the final roster for Sunday’s camp, Mangum 2027 quarterback Remington Laughlin Remington Laughlin 6’4″ | 185 lbs | QB Mangum | 2027 State OK was one of the first names we circled at the quarterback position. Laughlin has been a player we’ve wanted to watch for nearly a year now. He had a lot of hype going into high school as a freshman but had that season end before it could get started with an injury. Laughlin was able to perform in the drills and competition portion of Sunday’s camp and he certainly lived up to that hype from last year. Laughlin fired dart after dart all over the field. Mangum had a few players that really stood out and Laughlin was certainly one of them. He’s tall, has a good release and can fire a ball in the blink of an eye. We saw what we needed to see from Laughlin and are fired up to see him back in pads and healthy.

Kansas 2025 quarterback Seneca Steele Seneca Steele 6’4″ | 195 lbs | QB Kansas | 2025 State OK is one of the more underrated quarterbacks in the state’s 2025 class. Granted, the state’s 2025 class might be the best in recent history. But Steele is certainly a quarterback that should not be overlooked moving forward. The first thing that stands out when you watch the lefty in person is his physical build. He looks like your prototypical quarterback at the next level. I didn’t watch every single throw made by the quarterback group but from what I did watch, it looked like Steele had the strongest arm. And after watching Steele in person during the 2023 season, we know he can move around and is a good athlete with the pads on. Sunday, he was just throwing and was still able to turn some heads and he got the attention of his coaches.
Coweta 2026 quarterback Stylan McHenry Stylan McHenry 6’3″ | 170 lbs | QB Coweta | 2026 OK wasn’t on our radar prior to Sunday’s camp but he certainly is now. When it comes to the top performers at the position, McHenry was right there but what’s scary is how good he could be in the future. Physically, McHenry already looks the part and he’s similar to Steele where he is probably a lot scarier when the pads come on and he’s able to use his athletic ability. But from a pure passer standpoint, there was a lot in McHenry’s game to like as well. McHenry was one of the taller quarterbacks there, he fired a good ball and he performed well in the drills and competitions. He’s definitely a player that we want to watch when the pads come on this spring and fall. And as we mentioned in another post, Coweta has some dudes coming.

Similar to Whitaker, 2027 quarterback Tristin Coon came down from Ozark, Missouri and ended up being one of the better quarterbacks in attendance. We weren’t familiar with Coon’s game considering he’s from out of state but he certainly got our attention. More importantly, he got the attention of several coaches during the various drills and competitions. Coon was called up during the “Best On Best” competition at the end and performed well there and in all of the one on ones. Just a freshman, Coon has a lot of good football in front of him. He throws a good ball and on time. The one thing that stands out is that Coon might have been the smallest QB of this group but it never felt like he was “undersized” when you look at all the throws he was able to make.
