Continue ReadingI was lucky enough to snag an invite to the Midwest Legends Classic, a 7v7 tournament held in St. Paul last weekend. I showed up for Day 2 ready to observe the quarterfinals and was not disappointed. I saw teams from Nebraska, Iowa, and Canada take the field, but when the finals came it was the Minnesota-based team GoGetIt dominating. The program had split into two teams for the event, and each had dominated their way to the finals. To celebrate that success, I wanted to do film reviews of some of their athletes! Starting with QBs and working our way down the team, I watched the tapes of kids returning for the 2024 season, and I’m happy to break them down for you!
Manu Enriquez Manu Enriquez 5'11" | 170 lbs | ATH East Ridge | 2025 MN : 5’11″175 lbs East Ride 2025
Enriquez is the expected starter for an East Ridge team that is fresh off of a state tournament appearance for next season. He doesn’t have a ton of tape at his disposal, but there is a lot to like on his JV film. Early on in his film Enriquez is quickly pressured by the right defensive end, and rather than panicking, he steps up in the pocket and delivers a strike across the middle of the field. That pocket presence is a theme throughout his tape. Many QBs would struggle under the pressure that he’s faced, but Enriquez seems to thrive when the pocket is collapsing. If he is unable to find an open receiver under pressure, he’s shown the ability to scramble for first downs. I’m excited to see what Enriquez does this fall.
Peyton Meyers Peyton Meyers 6'0" | 170 lbs | QB Prior Lake | 2026 MN : 6′ 180 lbs Prior Lake 2026
There are very few QBs who I’ve seen improve as rapidly as Meyers has. The Prior Lake prospect looked like a bona fide varsity starter on Sunday. The soon-to-be junior shows off consistently stellar ball placement throughout his film. His film is full of what I’d consider to be varsity-level throws. Meyers is comfortable stretching the field with soaring passes across the middle and outside the hashes, but he knows when he has to check down as well. When facing pressure Meyers does a solid job of extending the play on his legs and appears proficient at throwing on the run. If Meyers continues to develop at this rate, the sky might be the limit.
Gaven Dean Gaven Dean 5'11" | 170 lbs | QB Lakeville South | 2025 State MN : 5’11” 175 lbs Lakeville South 2025
Dean is fresh off of a junior season that saw him start at QB for Lakeville South. They went 10-2 and made it to the state semifinals. He looked like one of the best QBs at the tournament, and I think he’s en route to a big senior year. Dean had one of the biggest arms there, and it shows in his film. Throughout the 5-minute varsity tape, you can see Dean make a variety of explosive high-level throws. One of his best traits is his willingness to stand in the pocket and deliver a rocket, even if that means he’ll get hit. He’s also plenty mobile, having recorded 326 rushing yards and 7 TDs last season. I think we may see Dean evolve into one of the top QBs in the state.
Jackson Thornburgh Jackson Thornburgh 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB Apple Valley | 2025 State MN : 6′ 180 lbs Apple Valley 2025
Thornburgh would be my pick for the Top QB at the tournament after his performance on Sunday. He started his junior season for Apple Valley where he recorded over 1,600 passing yards, 240 rushing yards, and 16 total TDs. Thornburgh opens up his tape with an absolutely electric throw on the run. Out of the play action, Thornburgh rolls right and throws a dime to his receiver 35 yards down the field, right over the defender’s head. He hits him perfectly in stride and it results in a touchdown. He has several plays on his tape like that, where he rips a ball 30+ yards downfield right into the receiver’s hands. Thornburg is exciting and needs more eyes on him ahead of his senior year.
Rylan McCreary-Kujawa Rylan McCreary-Kujawa 6'0" | 155 lbs | QB Rochester John Marshall | 2025 MN : 6′ 160 lbs Rochester John Marshall 2025
McCreary-Kujawa boasts a lot of sophomore tape, but not as much from his junior year, so we’ll review both of them. One of his greatest strengths has to be his speedy release. The ball flies out of his hands. McCreary-Kujawa also can loft balls over defensive backs’ heads well. He was able to hit tight windows while rolling out of the pocket on Sunday and also showed off the ability to hit deep balls outside of the hashes. He’s a solid athlete who loves hitting receivers in stride across the middle of the field. McCreary-Kujawa looks to be constantly improving and I’m excited to see more of him on the camp circuit this offseason.
