Champlin Park’s Aaron Briggs Aaron Briggs 5'8" | 160 lbs | DB Champlin Park | 2025 State MN was one of the more dominant guys on the day. By his own admission, he wasn’t at his best and still stood out with his technique and athletic talent.
“It was a pretty normal day playing football,” Briggs said about the afternoon in Plymouth. “I just went out there to have some fun and learn from the coaches. I tried to do good numbers with the testing, do my best, and be attentive to the coaching.”
His testing numbers were an area of the afternoon Briggs would have liked to redo.
“I was trying to do good during the testing. I felt I could have done better because I had a track meet the day before, and I was a little sore.”
Despite underperforming in the testing by his own criteria, he showed what he could do during the one-on-ones.
“I think my technique during the one-on-ones helped me stand out,” Briggs explained. “Every time I completed a route, the coach would always come to me and say I used good technique. A lot of the time, the coach would coach the guys up after the rep, but most of my reps, he didn’t have much to say. He would mostly say ‘good rep’ because I was forcing incompletions most of the reps. I played the ball well – through the receivers’ hands and squeezed them to the sidelines. Another thing I did a good job with was not looking back at the quarterback too soon. I kept my eyes on the hip of the receivers and played through their hands.”
When the reps are real—during football season—Briggs has to play a different style of football.
“I played corner and usually followed the fastest receiver, but we usually played zone.”
Briggs has yet to be focused on any one area of his game this offseason. He is looking to improve his overall athleticism.
“This winter, I played seven-on-seven football and did football speed, strength, and agility work on the side with my seven-on-seven coach.”
This spring, he continues to focus on speed.
“This is my second year in track,” Briggs said. “I have been doing the 100 and the 4X100, and sometimes I run the 200 and the 4X200.”
There is nothing like taking good and making it better.
“I think my speed is one of my strengths,” Briggs explained. “Nobody can burn more or outrun me. One of my other strengths is always playing through the ball.”
Both attributes were on display at the Showcase and will make throwing the ball on the Rebels a challenging proposition this fall.
Showcase numbers:
40-yard dash – 4.78
Shuttle – 4.56
Broad jump – 9’7
L Drill – 7.25
