We had some outstanding talent all across the state and even some of the surrounding states. We’ve already had a ton of coverage from the event dropping on Prep Redzone Next! In this post, we’re putting the spotlight on the defensive side of the ball with linebackers and defensive backs. If you want a breakdown on the top defensive linemen, CLICK HERE. These guys were the best of the best on the defensive side of the ball at linebacker and defensive back. Deer Creek 2028 linebacker Jackson Miller Jackson Miller 5'10" | 195 lbs | LB OK and Mustang 2028 defensive back Jonathan McCorvey were covered earlier this week in our spotlight on the positional MVPs from the camp.
Bixby 2028 linebacker Cimone Smitherman Cimone Smitherman 6’0″ | 170 lbs | LB Bixby | 2028 OK was right there with Miller for the MVP at the linebacker position. When we got a chance to look at the linebackers, Smitherman immediately stood out. Smitherman looks long and athletic and could end up playing several different positions at the next level. And as Smitherman goes into the Bixby high school program, one thing we know is if he shows some versatility, the Spartans will move him around. Smitherman is incredibly athletic and moves well. He’s going to more than likely be a player to watch moving forward. If Sunday was any indication, Smitherman has a bright future. Smitherman absorbed the coaching and got a lot of good reps. Even in reps that he lost, Smitherman jumped right back in and was looking to correct any mistakes.
Highlights
Another Smitherman heading to Bixby is 2028 defensive back Elijah Smitherman Elijah Smitherman 5’4″ | 120 lbs | DB Bixby | 2028 OK and just like Cimone, Elijah was very impressive and took advantage of all the reps he was able to get. Smitherman measured in at 5’4 and he was certainly giving up any height advantage to just about every wide receiver he went one on one with. But Smitherman used his technique and a springy jumping ability to lock some wide receivers down. Smitherman really impressed during the individual drills and then when the camp went into competitions. And there’s still plenty of time for him to grow but the natural ability at the cornerback position is already there. And when it comes to the Bixby football program, if you can play, they don’t care about “measurables.” Look at the Presley brothers or recently with Kordell Gouldsby Kordell Gouldsby 5’11” | WR Bixby | 2024 State OK .
