Continue ReadingBrant had a monster season as a sophomore for Timberline where he threw for 2,021 yards and 18 touchdowns in his varsity debut season. A plus athlete with the ability to really hurt teams with his quick release and ability to get the football out on time. He throws with good anticipation and is able to really throw on the run with good pop from his lower half. He stands tall in the pocket and shows good awareness with his ability to make rush defenders miss and then keep his eyes downfield. He is going to be special as he keep progressing and with another year it won’t be a surprise that he puts up more monster numbers.

Schoolfield was another young signal caller who had a monster season on his way to postseason awards. All he did as a sophomore was lead the Brave to their best season in a long time with his 2,240 yards and 22 touchdowns. Not only did he put up monster numbers but he did it against some of the best competition in the state of Idaho playing in the 5A Southern Idaho Conference. A true pocket passer with his ability to manipulate defenses with his eyes and smooth release that allows the ball to be placed exactly where it needs to be. He has good feet in the pocket and moves well enough to keep defenses honest. He is poised for future awards and is a name that should be at the top of many lists next season.

Avella is one of the few quarterbacks in the country that can say that they did not turn the football over as he ended up throwing 1,779 yards to go with 26 tds but more astonishing 0 ints. Yes, you read that right zero interceptions on the season as the sophomore does a really good job of protecting the football but throws with great accuracy that allows his guys to make a play on the ball and nobody else. He has a smooth throwing motion that doesnt have a lot of wasted movement while having quiet feet in the pocket. He does a good job of manipulating defenses and should be poised for another huge season.

Symons came on late for the Vikings but ended up being a driving catalyst for their state championship appearance. Symons threw for 2,165 yards and 16 touchdowns for the Vikings and was able really cement himself as one of the next stars at quarterback. Symons was able to use his plus athleticism to really maneuver well in the pocket and create time for himself. He has a strong arm that allows him to push the football down the field and is becoming more and more adept at throwing the intermediate route. He is only going to get better and with another year under his belt watch out for the young signal caller.

Nelson really came on late in the season as he only started 6 games for the Mavericks and was still able to throw for 1,399 yards and 15 touchdowns. Nelson is one of the most pure throwers of the football with very little wasted movements and is able to really get the ball out quickly with an extremely strong arm. He has a good feel for the pocket and does a really good job of buying himself time by moving away from rush defenders. He throws an excellent deep ball with great touch and placement. As he moves into a more permanent role for the Mavericks expect him to have huge junior campaign.
