Williams was the catalyst of Mission Viejo’s defense with four sacks and eight hurries. He showed quickness off the edge and impressive hand fighting.
When the right tackle did engage him, Williams used his reach to create separation and read the quarterback. His spin move is impressive and the pressure he created forced mistakes by the Oaks Christian offense.
Highlights
Schroller had a really tough matchup in this game against a big, athletic junior edge rusher.
The UCLA commit showed impressive quickness and was always in front of him in pass protection. In the running game, he does a good job keeping his body between the defender and the ball and gets to the second level nicely.
Highlights
Matranga showed good lateral quickness and made a lot of plays outside the hashes. He has a high motor as a blitzer and caused havoc rushing the passer.
Tolmaire is one of the best cover corners in the class and was excellent against Oaks Christian. He had two interceptions and one was a very athletic play where he high-pointed the ball like a receiver.
He got beat once for a big play but it appeared to be zone coverage where he thought he had help over the top. Tolmaire also had some tackles on the outside.
Spafford is on the small size but he is a big-time playmaker after the catch and has some impressive speed. He blocked a field goal and caused matchup problems in the slot.
OAKS CHRISTIAN
This game was my first time seeing Farrell in a game in person and his speed jumps out when you watch him. He can create separation with his speed and has good instincts after the catch.
Farrell was frequently getting open against a secondary that featured multiple Division 1 recruits.
Williams was impressive and had the lone interception for Oaks Christian. He was good in man coverage and didn’t allow any big plays on the outside.
Lowe is every bit of 6-foot-5 and really impressive in person.
He has very good quickness off the edge and is explosive out of his stance. When I talked to Mission Viejo coach Chad Johnson before the game, Lowe was the first player he mentioned.
