While some have played in their final high school games, and others used the day to build momentum into 2024, Thanksgiving saw players put it all on the field before their off seasons began.
John Wargo
John Wargo
I had the pleasure of watching the Phillipsburg/Easton matchup via livestream and was thoroughly impressed with the sheer dominance John Wargo displayed. The senior FB ran all over Easton’s defense, as they had almost no answer when the ball was in his hands. John was able to take it up the middle and rumble for positive yardage play in and play out. Rushing for 3 touchdowns and 160 yards, John Wargo left a lasting impression in his final game in this storied rivalry.
Kyree Fisher Kyree Fisher 6’1″ | 180 lbs | QB Newark Tech | 2024 NJ has not only had an amazing senior season, but was able to cap it off with a big performance Thanksgiving Day. The senior QB for East Orange had himself a game, as they pummeled Barringer 38-0. Kyree accounted for 4 of the 5 touchdowns East Orange scored, all of them through the air. Kyree not only lit up the scoreboard through the air, but found a ton of success when he used his legs. As Kyree tossed the ball for 351 yards, he also complemented it with 126 yards on the ground. Wherever Kyree goes next, that team will have a talented signal caller commanding their offense.
Highlights
One of the most elite WRs in the state, Lotzeir Brooks Lotzeir Brooks 5’11” | 170 lbs | WR Millville | 2025 State NJ balled out on Thanksgiving. Millville took on Vineland and poured on the points to win 65-0. Lotzeir accounted for more than half of his teams points, as he caught 5 touchdowns through the air and 155 yards to go with it. Lotzeir used his burner speed to consistently get to open space and make it an easy throw. He is truly one of the quickest players in the state, where his jog looks like most player’s sprint. An elusive ball carrier, it is hard to believe Lotzeir will be back for one more year. With offers from Oregon, Louisville, Georgia, Penn State and many others, Lotzeir’s recruiting interest will only grow this off season.
The only player on this list that was on the losing side of the game on Thanksgiving, Joel Cordoba Joel Cordoba 6’2″ | 185 lbs | DB Plainfield | 2025 State NJ still deserves the recognition after a big receiving performance. The Plainfield WR played his heart out as he had 12 receptions for 135 yards and 1 touchdown. Joel is a downfield target that can snatch the ball away from defenders in the air. He has a big frame and is an easy target to toss it up to. And with quick reflexes on both sides of the ball, it’s no wonder Joel has garnered interest from schools like Duke, Sacred Heart, and Akron.
Earnest Reevey Earnest Reevey 6’2″ | 195 lbs | DB Long Branch | 2024 NJ is the last player on the list, and he surely made a lasting impression after Long Branch’s game on Thanksgiving. A QB with elite speed, Earnest was not an easy player to bring to the ground, as he ran for 156 yards and 2 touchdowns. Earnest was also able to rack it up through the air, as he threw for 147 yards and 2 touchdowns as well. A 41-20 win over Red Bank Regional really cemented Earnest’s season, as he had an amazing final performance for his program.
