AL Pops’ 2028 Tight End Prospect Potpourri – 11.28

Perhaps no other position has gone through more of a transformation over the last three decades, than the red-headed step child of offensive linemen and wide receivers. As of today, 11 of the top 15--including the top 8--tight ends in terms of career receiving yards, were active NFL players into the 2000's. Previously thought of as an extra blocker, or a wide receiver that was too big and slow, tight ends are now an intricate part of offenses. Here are 12 tight end prospects that stood out to me today from across the United States on November 27th, 2023. The future Rockwood Tiger can catch, turn and run without any lost speed or momentum. Saw him last summer and thought he was an offensive tackle, until I saw him burn defenses up the seem. Admittedly more of a basketball player right now, he comes with agile feet and soft hands. Easily of the top blocking tight ends I've seen in this class thus far. Plays with a mean streak, too. The future Anderson County Bearcat is one of the leaner prospects in this write-up, but at 6-foot-4 and 170 pounds he's a nice one. He's a big, tall kid that sticks out like a man amongst boys. The three-sport athlete (basketball and baseball too) lives about an hour outside of Nashville, and will be at Smith County High School next year. I don't have official measurements, but I don't think he's the 6-foot-4 and 185 pounds he's listed at. However, he's still a long kid. Does a pretty good job with his hand in the dirt as a blocker on the line of scrimmage, but obviously is a mismatch for defenses in the pass game. Extremely quick off the snap on both sides of the ball. Plays fast and violently. Put an exclamation point on a tremendous youth career with the Masconomet Chieftains, with a 34-0 win in the championship game. The 6-foot, 200 pound Kesner is the shortest tight end in this write up, but he may also be the most versatile. In his film from this year he played a lot of H-Back, which allowed him to effectively in-line block but also get out into his routes. He also was no stranger to taking direct snaps in the shotgun. Up nearly 25 pounds and an inch and a half since our PRZ Next Camp in Atlanta last year, all signs point to him becoming a recruitable football player early in his high school career. Also a stud on the basketball court, McNeal is up to 6-foot-4 and 190 pounds but moves like a wide receiver more than anything else. Played for Team FSP during the 2023-2024 season and has continued to take over the PNW with his playmaking ability. Next year, the Patriots will welcome Tight End/Athlete Derion Glenn to the high school level.
